Here's one for the pc techies
I have a Bigpond Ultimate USB wireless setup and have poor reception with it at home
Do the external antennas make much difference to reception and if so what type and where to get one
live in the northern subs of Melb

Yes, they make a big difference. We sell them for the remote areas out here in the Kimberly. As and example of an aerial, if I go to Derby I will only get reception for 10 k each side of Broome - Derby. but with the external aerial I can get reception the entire way. Lots of people use them here are there a quite a few bad spots. Yagi are the best.

We have a magnetic base antenna and patch leads to fit our mobile phone (Telstra) and our Bigpond Ultimate USB. The antenna makes a huge difference to both. We usually just hang the antenna on the top of our camper. However we do get better coverage with our mobile phone then the Bigpond Ultimate USB. This is fine, as we then use our phone as a modem. We have 1 gig to use each month on the phone which is never a problem when using both devices. ;)

On the top of Bigpond Ultimate USB there are 2 holes for the patch cable
