Which ever suits your purpose. When I needed to make the choice I got the misses to sit in A cruiser, Datsun, paj and prado. She liked the cruiser best 8)

The deisel nissans I have driven seem to be a bit under gunned until the turbo comes in but havent driven a petrol.

A mate & neighbour has a 4500 Nissan petrol.  Very thirsty & not as good as a diesel.

Shoot Danbri a  PM he has a petrol patrol since 2004. I'm sure he might be able to answer any questions.

For the $$ you could use the patrol for a while and if you find it's not to your liking you could sell it. If the inlaws have owned for a while it might be better since you know it's history.

Good luck.

I'm an Accountant, so you will need to forgive the following....

Looking at it from an investment perspective, $12k is under current market sale value, buy it, use it, then sell for a profit and buy the best, a toyota 100 series.... you will have saved $$$.

But if while using it, you really enjoy it, all the better...keep it and live happily ever after..
