Title: The Perfect Bush Shower
Post by: Heiny on February 25, 2011, 07:56:22 PM
Today a friend of mine gave SWMBO the August 2010 issue of On The Road - Budget Camping and it was folded to page 55, with a message from the old mate "this is great how come we havn't thought of doing this".

The article is titled The perfect bush shower.

It was whilst reading the article I thought this is a great idea and I should share it with my My Swag friends.

It consists of a 5 litre pressure garden spray, 12mm plastic reducer and a 12mm garden shower type spray head, all for no more than $30 from your local hardware store.

I think I will be trying this idea myself.

Would keep the weeds down as well

We used to use this exact thing but with the stock spray head.
With low flow from the stock head we would have to stop every minute and pump it for 30 seconds to keep the flow up.
With a bigger flow, pumping the container will be a full time exercise.
or get the partner to do it while you shower. ;D

We use a very easy system, first up one should own a galvanised bucket (has many other uses as well) heat water in this on any fire then you need a pump and shower rose, buy from supercheap, but i can advise on others if you need.
You will need a 12v supply ( we have a 900 amp battery pack, now about 8 years old from super cheap)
When heating the water you can keep an eye on the temperature, especially when bathing the young ones

Take a 20L plastic jerry 1 x 15mm in line plastic tap an old shower rose. Boil 4L of water add 16L of cold chuct on roof of truck at the back wheel. Place soup holder on top of  back wheel turn on tap . Enjoy 20 mins of nice hot shower for SWOMBO to wash her hair . No pumps , wires, gravety fed  just to simple to fail . Nothing better sitting having a coldie when your clean

Instead of a bildge pump I use a fountain pump from bunnings, can get them in different sizes to suit your needs. They draw less power and are very cheap to buy.

12v ?
We now use a 20 lt steel drum on top of our Ozpig lookalike. A pump from supercheap hooked up to the batteries in the camper, instant happy family.

Tip: Buy, borrow or steal a baby sock to act as a filter as the built in item does not stop anything. The holes in the head get blocked with crap and you end up with no flow. >:( >:( >:(
Use a sock, all good.

I have the same system as Linmac but I think mine was a little cheaper - about 60 bucks I think all up.

What's a clodie and you might need to go back to your wife swapping forum? ;D
SWMBO might not be too happy about it and I'm lucky she doesn't get on here although she'd probably have a laugh cause we're coming up to 26yr anniversary!
