I built a small metal folder.
I popped into the scrap metal yard and grabbed enough steel to do what I needed.....$20.

It is nothing special but it works perfect. 800mm is the max width. 3mm alloy or 1.6mm steel at the full width is its limit and then I needed a mate to put weight on the table so I didnt lift it as I was doing the bend.

I cut a section of my welding table out and welded the folder into the backside of the table.

And a few test fold. You can slide the top hold down angle forward or backwards to increase or decrease the sharpness of the fold.

I then cut out some of the alloy plate and folded it up into a charging station that works for us.
I didnt grab any pics of the folds but again they were more than acceptable.

Maybe put some bracing above it into the middle to stop deflection. That'll help with slightly thicker material.

Yeh Im going to put a truss over it as it definitely deflects slightly on the heavy stuff. No where near as bad as I thought it might but its there.

Emptied out the back of the troopy of all the stuff I migrated from the BT50, and started on a set of drawers. The batteries I have taken out are 2 x 175ah AGM and associated DIY battery box, combined weight tipping the scales at 100kg. The set of drawers with lithium batteries should be pretty close to the same, so no gain in performance/fuel, but importantly, gaining useful storage and not adding to the vehicle weight, any more than I had already. Will post photos when finished.

It’s an acme thread so yes it has square-ish shoulders. 29 degrees to be accurate

Sounds pretty good then. Is it a kit, or did you machine it up? I have a lathe, but have never tried thread cutting on it.

Speaking of lathes, the last time I used mine was to modify a couple of spare espresso machine filter baskets, for the shed Espresso machine. I heard about people using non-pressurised baskets, and saying they were better, or produced a better tasting coffee than the standard pressurised ones, so I thought I'd give it a go.

Set the outer basket up on the lathe and removed the bottom, leaving about 2mm of lip.

Result was yes, I think they can produce a better coffee shot, but they take a bit of experimenting with grind size and tamping pressure. A work in progress though.

No its not a kit. Even though the thread is easily machined, I bought a length of 1" threaded rod and machined the end to suit what I am doing.

The vice is inspired by and loosely based on the vice Make it Extreme built.
