hi all read a thread on here about thumper battiers would like to have a go at making something similiar using off the shelf battery agm 105amp has anyone got any specs to follow of what they made thanking u ken

buy yourself the 105amp battery, then install it into a battery box like a marine battery box or if you have a dig around ebay you'll see a few different ones. Job done.

i don't think anyone could have said it easier.. nice ben.!
definitely use an agm though, they will take angles, being layed down and can be in the cabin inside a car with you, so good times are had by all.

I've got one of these: http://www.sidewinder.com.au/page170a.html mated to a 120a/h AGM. Sits in the Paj and is charged via anderson lead. The best thing is that the AGM is isolated from the vehicle's cranking battery and all this contained within the pack ;D Too easy really!

I have purchased from Sidewinder several times and have found them prompt, reliable and good quality.
N.B. May also need mounting tray and bracket, so another $75 (unless they are priced separately?) So, approx. $500 to mount box in vehicle, plus cost of battery.

Part of the reason for the cost is that it is fitted with a dual battery isolator. If you already have one of these fitted for charging the CT battery (e.g. Sidewinder / Traxide / Red Arc) you don't need a second.
Why not make up your own box, e.g. using a plastic fishing tackle box? Fit the connectors YOU need for YOUR accessories and a fuse / circuit breaker, and 'job done' for a fraction of the cost. ;D

After having my two 66aH batteries loose in the back of the car for the past three trips I thought it was time to do someting about it. All housed in a ply box now with high density foam from a floor mat under and around them now. It will pretty much stay as is but with another Anderson added so there is a power in and power out Anderson as we only use it to power the engel in the car (all other accessories run of the dual battery system under the bonnet) or we connect it to the existing camper batery bank to add additional life. Yet to decide what to do about a lid, I am leaning towards a hinged checkerplate one at the moment. The rear wall of the box is short 15mm to allow ventilation. All glued and screwed with 65mm stainless screws into a 19mm base to make sure the ar$e won't be falling out of it.
Charging will be via solar, car or 240volt depending on where we are at and what we are doing. And yes it is heavy.
