Gentrax Generators..... anyone have one?

Been thinking of getting a genset for a little while.

Out here, if we lose power, we lose water as well.

I can get water from one tank and bucket it the crapper, but that's a bit painful.

These Gentrax seem pretty good and really well priced and the reviews, if you can believe them, are very good.

The 3.5kw looks like it came straight out of the kings factory, the 2 kw ones also look the same
Gentrax seem to have more range, but kings electronic range don’t have the best reputation.
I will say that I have the older style 2kva from kings and for the last 2 years it’s been rock solid. But it really has only worked hard 3-4 weeks out of that and the maybe 5 or 6 3-4 hour  workouts duty a single day.

I have the same issue when we loose power, no water but even worse no Sky TV 
I picked up a 2nd hand Honda 2.2kva that hadn't done much work for less than a no name brand
Yamaha also do great generators
My suggestion would be to look for a better brand 2nd hand

I was looking for a Honda at the time, but could not find a second hand one at a reasonable price, everyone wanted beat new prices. So I bought the kings as a stopgap and it’s still going strong.
I do agree though, Honda is the way to go , if your budget stretches that far

I went straight to the Honda site to start with.

I think a 2kva was $1,950 or something.
Yamaha was a tad cheaper, but only about 1.5 or so usable wattage.

The thing i like about these Gentrax units, it the 3.5 (maybe 2.8 to 3.0 usable) power for under a $1,000.

The reviews, for the bulk of it, are friggin good. Out of 187, a 120 are 5 star and 35 are 4 star.

My theory on the bigger unit, is we could run a lot more gear in a black out.

We lived at Brightview for 10 years, and had fluctuating power, also. We were reliant on an electric water pump and an envirocycle septic system, which also had an electric pump. We purchased a Renegade 6.5kva generator. We had a caravan point wired into the house and the necessary mods for switching between mains and generator (new house build, so these were part of the electrical package ordered.). Ours has electric and pull start options. Apart from being a little fiddly to start, has been a terrific investment, as it ran our house in the Lockyer Valley, and runs our house in Nanango, without issues. The funny thing is, we've never lost power here. (the reason i don't want to spend too much)

I don't recall the tenants ever having the power play up either.

I must admit, i never considered trade tools for a gen-set.

I'd prefer something i can throw in the boot and take back if it failed, so trade tools could be a good option.

The main reason for the purchase, is just simply being knackered if we lost power.

Not much fun trying to ferry water from the above ground tank by hand to try and get a big Bondi Cigar around the S bend.
Especially if its one of those shockers that takes two flushes to go and another 2 for the skid mark removal.
Plus, due to the smell, once i've gone from the smelly ol library.... i wanna stay gone.

Might ring trade tools me thinks.

Yep.... Trade tools Toowoomba have a 3.5 invertor jobbie with my name on it for $1,020. 

I'll go up Friday morning and grab it.

We've got a 2.0Kva on the front of the van.. Electric start.. Drives the air con or microwave if needed.. Always been reliable.. Starts first time, but we start it occasionally just to make sure.. Uses stuff all fuel and never any oil.. Bought it from Addisons on Ebay..

I bought a Trade tools 6.5 kva generator back in 2013 from memory after being without power again for > 3 days.  We have a biocycle and are on tank water so being without power grew boring rather quickly.  Biocycles also don't like being without power for too long.  It has electric start and pull start and has been extremely reliable and very good value.  I wasn't keen  on spending a heap of money on a Honda or inverter genny if it only gets used a handful of times each summer.  The fuel tank on it is quite large >25l so it has a reasonable runtime - it just not very quiet but you can't have it all.

Because I'm custom building the box trailer to go behind the Zephyr for our Drag Challenge adventures..... well....

I'll know how much space to leave for the gen-set now. 

I look at it this way, say we needed to replace a serpentine belt or something in the middle of night in the middle of nowhere.

We can start the gen-set and work with full lighting rather than a torch.

This had no bearing on us buying a generator.  bah ha ha ha.

Be a lot easier to run the, inverter welder, compressor for the tyres,  air ratchet, drill, impact gun,die grinder for those assorted on the road fixes  too ..

Got pinged for the toll once each way.

BUT.... compared to the stop start through Toowoomba to the new road, allowing for the fuel consumption of the Fleetwood, i should be in front even with the toll.

Coincidence  that we both have genies where we live.  It got that bad at one point that if I saw a dark cloud or a breeze slightly stronger than a bees fart, I start getting he generator out!
