My elderly parents were down from Qld staying at my brothers place in the greater Sydney area for Christmas. On the day the Qld premier announced residents have to home by 1.00am last Tuesday or go into self funded quarantine mum tried to get flights home but all planes were full. They waited a few days to se if the conditions would change. Dad has dementia and had a couple of meltdowns at my brothers saying he wanted to go home not really realising they had to go into 14 day quarantine and he wouldn’t have coped in isolation nor mum trying to A) keep him in the room and B) trying to keep him entertained and her keep her sanity as she is struggling dealing with this fairly recent condition. They bit the bullet and flew home today expecting to go into quarantine and keep in mind the area the hotels are in are where they lived anyway with some being on the same block, and armed with their paperwork were asked where have you come from. The officials looked up the suburb my parents had been staying at since before Christmas and said nup not on the list so you are free to go. Anyway there had been no reported cases within 50km of where they have been. This is a massive relief for mum. Winning.
