a week ago, i had an issue with a weed spray spillage on my upper ankles.
The sock line and about 4 inches up.

Burnt the Shit out of the skin..... a real nice cherry red.

Yesterday when Ben picked up the panels, i sprayed some Areogard? (spelling) on my legs.

Holy crap..... cherry red again..... nice shade of red too.

AND.... ben has the panels..... might have them back on Sunday.

Its looking that way.
Not really all that concerned with carking it, but not before i finish the car and race it.
I want that 8:70 or 8:80 time slip.

Being a tad second hand at the moment, does make working on it a bit slow and sometimes painful.
It my head, i just picture that parachute at full blossom in the braking area..... and keep working.

We think we can get a custom chute made with Marvin the Martian on it.
A pic of him with his disintegrating ray gun..... would be pretty funny..... and cool.

Pic 1. Check out the nice western NSW dirt that was hiding behind the trim.

Pic. 2. One of the many times, i had this on and off.

Pic 3.  Little bit of Rusty the home wrecker. (that's guards now fixed and back home about 30 minutes ago)

Pic 4. These old badge holes are now gonski.

Pic 5. This was a minor few pin holes, but it was thin..... takes a bit to find good metal worth welding.

So, the left front guard as i mentioned, is home now and ready to be stripped.
It will require a little bit of hammer and dolly work, and a very thin smear of filler to be perfect.

Pics 1 and 2. The tower plates required a trim to suit the guards.
When you have this many mods going on, sometimes a haircut is required.

Pic 3. The boot badge holes have been welded and the boot is home again.

Pic 4. The bonnet ZEPHYR letters badge holes are welded and the bonnet is home again.

Then, it was time for the R/H guard.

Its got slightly less rust than the left and is dead straight.
I dragged a second guard i had, to see if it was better..... it looked like it would be.

Pic 1. Cleaned up the top corner, where they all rust. Friggin mint.

Pic 2. Checked out the front end where the paint was cracked. Little bit of bog.

Pic 3. Checked out the bottom..... bog city.....

Pic 4. repair the original one.... its now with Ben.

Pic 5. One of many times its been on and off today. The wheels/front end, side on, look too wide for the car, but they do fit.

All the welding spots and Shit have been dressed and hit with some etch primer so they can sit for a few days.
L/F guard is on and bolted in place ready for Paul on Thursday.

After spending 2 hours on the Z car, i spent 2 hors on the mower.

WooHoo... early 11:40 finish today, seeing its Sunday...  :cup:

The things you need to do..... ;D

Hmmm, shed would look better with a coat of paint..... Hey Astrid.
The paint was ok, just wasn't keen on the colour.
Looks much better now.
My little girl is doing a wicked job, painting the house inside and out and getting the shed done. (She's almost 60 now too) (Astrid, not the shed)

Meanwhile, inside the shed, some more Marvin work took place while she was pissing around outside.

All the bare metal areas are cleaned up and squirted with etch primer for the minute as mentioned in the previous post.
Stripping the panels of paint will happen soon, and then each panel goes into epoxy primer.

Bit hard to make some of this Shit sound interesting or exciting.

I pulled the inner sound deadener from the boot lid.
Pretty good in there.
When assembled new, the sound deadener is glued to the bare metal boot skin.
The the skin goes on the frame..... over time, the deadener comes away and rust begins.
In a perfect world IE: a 100 point show car, you'd pull the outer skin, treat it all, and put it back together again.
Marvin is just old street/strip jalopy, so that won't be happening.
The boot lid will be be cleaned the best i can, whatever that may be, and after final paint, rust proofed.
I''ll tape up and seal the access to the boot skin the keep it dry during the stripping process.
At least once its rust proofed, it can be spun around and tipped up to get the proofing stuff over everything
All the swinging panels will be painted off the car and then fitted.

I needed to sort the doors out and see up close, what we're working with.

The left rear was first..... these turds are friggin heavy.
I had a good look at the 3 x L/R's i have in stock.

Best one, is a blue one, so i wobble and stagger with a complete door from the storage room and chuck it on the panel stand.
The first decent inspection, reveals a little bit of filler (3 inches long) along the bottom of the door on the inside, where the skin folds over the frame.
Little bit disappointed to find bog.  :'(
Bit of a poke and jab..... Shits bonded well, get a little baby screwdriver, get under the edge and bend a tiny bit of the bog back...WHAT. ???
Bog/filler doesn't bend.....holy crap, that's lead, just poorly finished
Pretty happy to find lead.  :D

So, spin the door over and begin to strip it, seems easy enough, done it before..... hmmm, that was the 1980's
Zephyrs have a nice chrome trim around the glass cavities, inside and out..... these are really easy to root up.
Mine came off nice and straight etc, but time consuming.
Pretty happy about that.  :D

So, with the 2 pieces of glass out, the winder assembly out and all the nik naks and Shit out of the road, we had a good look inside.
Oh bugger, its had a repair with the old overlapping joins.
Bit disappointed about that.  :'(

I put the sander over the outer skin..... bog dust.... ??? friggin bog, but with a lead repair elsewhere.

Shits getting weird now......  :D

So, with most of the bog out (ran out of sanding discs) i came upon some lead repair again.  :D
But the panel is a bit beaten up :'(
But its repairable.  :D
But its going to take some work to get right. :'(

Went back to the storage room, poked around the other doors, no, the current L/R is the best L/R
Trying to buy very good panels for a 62 year old car will be a challenge.
Even a really good looking replacement, may end up being worse than i have anyway.

Nope, we'll fix this one.

Paul will be over this morning, so we can beat the Shit outer Marvin's beaver.
If time permits, we may tackle a few other small jobs.

I have say though, if all we achieved was, a nice smoooooth tidy beaver for the day... I'll be happy.

I may have a pic or two later today or tomorrow....  :worthles:

OK.... Some more pics for those who care.
I've come to grinding halt for today due to showers.
Stripping stuff to bare metal with showers and high humidity won't cut it.
I also don't want to start on something and have to abandon that to go back to the panels.... so.. rest day today.

Pic 1. This looked just like bog until i sanded it and found a lead repair.

Pic 2/3. More lead repairs in the bottom of the door as well.

The theory is, the door has been repaired a long time ago.
Then, its been hit or something again later in life, and its been repaired by being bogged over the lead.
Its not an original door for this car.
The original is toast, after somebody tried to repair a bit of rust and basically destroyed it in the process.

Pic 4. The L/R door is carrying some rough repairs up top too.

It would suggest, the door has been caught and folded out or back on itself.

Paul and i will sort this and get it as good as we can.

So, as one door closers, another one opens..... we hope to fix that too.  ;D
Little bit of car builder's humour right there.

Its only allowing the one photo for the minute.... will keep trying.
PHOTO 2 won't load up, but you'll get the idea.

This was my job yesterday..... it was friggin hot outside too.

Pic 1. With the sound deadener out, you can see the problem.

Pic 2. in a perfect world, you would unstitch the outer skin from the inner.
I'm getting there, its cleaning up nice.

Pic 3. Do the hardest bits first..... pretty happy with this part of it now. (there is a thin coat of sanding dust on there still, needs a blow job)

The underside is stripped back further now, but i gave it away to continue today.
Which, will now be tomorrow.
Once the entire underside is bare, quick flip and do the outside..... easiest bit.
Then epoxy sealer before days end.

Marvin, has a nice smooth, soft to touch and rub beaver..... on one side.  >:D

The other side still looks like a trodden on potato chip.  :'(

Paul was a wicked help, but it's friggin slow going too.

Pic 1. Before shot, the beaver looks worse in real life huh.  :'(

Pic 2. Slowly slowly, steady as she goes.

Pic 3. Getting better.

Pic 4. This side will get a bit of high fill primer and the tiniest smear of filler on it.
