Landcrusier v8 petrol "owners"

Ok I am looking for feedback from OWNERS of the uzj100r 100 series 4.7ltr v8.

I am looking at new cars and nothing is floating my boat for the $$$. So I have been steered towards a 2002 V8 petrol.

I just am wondering how you have found them if you have one and what mods were a must ect. I am particulary interested in the IFS front end as I have never owned one.

Thanks all .I am used to the cost of fuel as I have the 4.5 petrol at present.

Theo, I'm on my third 100 series Cruiser, firstly the same model as you, a 2000 GXL 4.5L petrol, and then two V8s. As good as my first Cruiser was, the V8 is a better vehicle by far.

It uses less petrol
The IFS is far more comfortable when driving on road
The 5 speed gearbox is smoother and quieter

I read with interest all the information on how soft IFS was, and how it wouldn't stand up to punishment. There were some Cruisers where the front suspension cracked, but show me a vehicle model that hasn't had some design weakness.

I am sure most of us would like a diesel, but the reality is that they cost a lot more in the Land Cruiser range. The motor is excellent, and yes, it drinks but unless you're planning to do the Canning Stock Route, this isn't a problem in most areas of Australia.

I had the 4.5 manual and then 3months with a V8 auto at work.

Loved the v8!  So smoooooooth.  And the IFS was great.

Same as above, Haven't owned any other Cruisers but have a 2006 and I looooooove it. I feel like..... no I am,  king of the road when driving it.. Loves the jucie but who cares, your not worried about that either

Maybe if you're going to play really hard, IFS is not the best suspension, it doesn't have the articulation of the live axle front end, but you don't strike me that kind of fella. You want to take your family camping, comfortably. If you can take a camper there, the IFS is not going to be the limiting factor.

I saw a Sahara version of my truck at Windsor Toyota on the weekend, stock as a rock, $50K.

Yeah mate without ringing my own bell I've done the hardore stuff outback challange and the like overseas and just want to enjoy camping and a bit of a drive so yes your right I'm not that kind of fella anymore .

So I think IFS will be more than adequate for me and my family. I tend to find that most 4x4s do 95% normal touring and 5% offroad so why build it up for 5% of it's life .

I am checking out this 2nd hand one this week with only 56K on the clock I hope its a winner

I've got the V8 and love it its been lifted 3' in th efront and 4' in the rear it gets me most places that I go and most places where others wouldn't the power is a real winner towing my camper heading up hills just click it back to 4th and blow off any turbo diesels that are in the way. a good exhaust, air filter and snorkel helped mine greatly with the fuel and its got a note similar to a hsv it really s#@ts the rice burner boys at the lights to

I like the power as pulling a horse float or camper it has the grunt. Yes it likes a drink but that is the downside of any V8.

The IFS yes is limited in articulation but that is the only negative.

The V8 Petrol cruisers go well, but not like a V8 - if that makes sense. I took one down the snow a couple years back, 4 blokes, all the gear and it went quite well. I was still 'into it' on the hills though.

Try not to fall into the trap of expecting V8 Falcon or Commodore performance, these passenger cars will leave the poor cruiser for absolute dead.

A 4.7V8 Petrol EFI engine in a 3 tonne car, they go okay. They are comfortable to drive, but I wouldn't call them fast by any means.

I'd happily own one as a good solid tourer. If you can afford it, the FZE (or whatever it's called) TDI is an awesome engine.

I am sure the Captain would beg to differ here, watch out four his 4 wheel burnouts and if his Silver one doesnt beat you then I know a white one on the east coast that will give you a run for your money>

Yes Gronk I will admit your challenger certainly gave the 100 series petrol V8 cruiser a run for it's money on stockton beach last time I was there with you, you made it up the dune where others failed (sorry Jules) but BV 007 and I were engaged doing other things (thanks again Lindsay) so the 200 series diesels weren't really tested against the Mitsu. So this one against the V8 petrol cruisers is a win for you
