Newbie looking for Camper trailer in the $15000 - $20,000 range

Hi,  New member looking at getting into the Camper Trailer scene after owning a caravan for the past 3 years and wanting to get back to camping while still physically able to.
The wife and I are planning on weekend or week long trips around Tas but also venturing to the mainland and travelling North and West for a few weeks.
Note, we have a Jeep Grand Cherokee so no actual offroad adventures.....
After some advice on what campers we should be looking at in our price range of $15000 - $20000 and one we can put a dinghy on top of. I'm in Tas so not much choice around when looking for new camper trailers and the second hand market has a lot of old campers.
Have looked at Cub and similar Aus built but they are out of our price range so have been looking at rear fold Hard floors such as , ModCon, Wild Boar, Nomad and Stoney Creek.  Any advice appreciated,  Cheers Roger

G'day Roger and welcome to myswag.  Don't knock the Jeep too much (though I guess it as in jest).  A mate towed a Cub camper across the Simpson with a Jeep GC and with standard road tyres.  Needed a fair bit of help though  :D

Hi KB, Joking a little about the Jeep but I am aware its an SUV and not in the realm of Cruisers or Patrols etc.  Having said that I have just decided to get s suspension lift (EFS) and Mickey Thompson tyres so that I can go a little farther than standard Jeep GC's.  I doubt the wife will let me drive anywhere she doesn't feel comfortable going so that may limit the more challenging tracks!!

Hi Speewa,  The Cub is a good unit, watched the Pat Callinan video of it and also watch his show regularly. Just not sure it's within our price range as it seems most things are 'optional extras' even the battery.  Have looked a couple of used ones online (2006) but they look old when compared with current models, seems Camper trailers have advanced so much in the past few years.

This looks ok. Might get them down to near 20 as it has been on there a while. Well appointed with a queen size bed. Was about 40k new. Also judging by the pics it is owned by an older couple so may not have done much hard work.

Thanks, really not sure what to do. Like the new trailers with all the modern styling etc but Aus made is pretty special so an older trailer in good nick is probably the way to go. Plan to put a dinghy on top and an outboard on the drawbar, just have to keep gthe wife happy with storage and convenience  :cheers:

Hi straightsman, my old man is just in the process of selling a aussie made but he is SA would be asking about 14k i think, this thing is built locally and is a true off roader 4×4 he has  been most places in Aus in it. He was going to try and sell it local first through the 4wd club. I see your in Tas could be bit of an issue.

G'day mate
Welcome.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of the brands you have mentioned.

I looked at Wild Boar when I bought my F/F a year or so ago.
I was hugely impressed with them. Great finish. QC seemed super high. He was genuinely proud of his product.
I have heard nothing bad about Stoney Creek. A few people on a F/F site have them and no complaints I can think of.
Modcon are reputable too. You couldn't go wrong.

They are all a little bit different.. Storage/ fridge box size.  Fitting etc.
I would guess they all do a boat loader?
Some will have quick awnings as well as standard. Etc
Best would be to try to pick one your current stuff fits in...
Nothing worse than getting the camper and finding your fridge doesn't fit. :(  lol
Check their specs. See what suits you and your style of camping and equipment.
Then buy that one. :)
Then.. Check it carefully before driving away.

Thanks everyone for your susggestions, have purchased a CUB Brumby as the wife wanted something new and Aus made to replace the as new Regal Commander caravan we sold!!!  So, have plenty of brownie points means this years looking good   :angel:
