2011 Eagle outback stoneguard
« on: September 04, 2017, 02:21:46 PM »
Stoneguards on the drawbar haven't changed much over the years, what other options are out there, the only underskung guard seems to be stone stomper ?

Also, what options have people seen for the rear of the 4WD, we have a grand Cherokee

Over the years we have tried several ideas. This is the current one and seems to work the best. On our trips outback about 50% of the driving is on gravel or dirt roads or worse.
We tried flaps made from conveyor belt and other similar materials. The problem with belt is that it tends to bend backwards with even a small amount of speed. Also I found that it does stop the air flow from under the vehicle. This matting hardly bends backwards even at road speeds and doesn't inhibit the air flow. Also it doesn't seem to create as much dust as solid flaps do.
We have the mat as shown on the vehicle and another across the camper under the chassis rails. It is about 50mm from the ground when the camper is hooked up. Any lower causes it to become a grader blade when going over bumps on a gravel road which tends to spray stones and such sideways which is not a real problem except when passing other vehicles. The mat is available at the Big Green Shed and isn't too expensive. Bolting it on requires a metal strip on each side with the mounting bolts going through the strips to clamp the rubber.

that's a great idea BP. when you get to camp it will make a nice mat... but it's going to suit our rig.

Our mesh guard on tube frame on the camper draw bar is getting a few holes. Does anybody know of somebody in Perth
who can make new mesh screens? is there an easy alternative?

Or do need I buy a complete new guard?
