Title: 3 way fridge repairs
Post by: robsjack on January 17, 2013, 11:36:58 AM
Hey, can anyone let me know who does servicing and repairs on Dometic 3-way fridges in the Illawarra area? My fridge was working perfectly on 240VAC before we left home but wouldn't work on gas once we got away just after Christmas. Something's amiss with the gas side of things.

When I first hooked it up at camp it lit up fine and all seemed ok but it didn't get cold. I kept trying it intermittently throughout the next few days until it got to the point where it wouldn't light at all. I tried the turning it upsidedown trip with no success.

If you are having trouble lighting it, or keeping it alight. then i would say you have a blockage, you say you ran another appliance of the same bottle,,, did you use the same hose.? if  the answer is yes, then the blockage is in the fridge side... should not be that big an issue to clear it,,, possibly a small piece of Shit in the jet..

Check out this instruction manual on an old 3 way. It may not be your model but the Maint and Service starting on page 11 tells you all about the normal gas system, and the technology is still the same. Whatever you do, DO NOT stick anything in the gas jet hole as it has a non metalic insert in it (mine did anyway) and is easily damaged.

Mine did what yours has done and after I cleaned and polished everything in the gas side I found it was the thermostat as it is a combined gas/240 thermostat in one, was about 200 bucks for a new one. Has to be installed by a licenced gas fitter of course.

Regards
Mark

Mine wouldn't stay alight found due to the rough road into the campsite the thermostat had fallen out...
