Question: are the lithium batteries used in these scooters/fire starters etc made differently from the ones used by campers and caravans or for the house??

Victorian fire authorities say they're responding to almost one lithium-ion battery fire every day.

Commander Eckholdt said lithium-ion batteries were a growing concern for fire services, who are responding to almost one fire per day caused by lithium-ion batteries.
"What we are finding is that a lot of people are charging devices while they're asleep — phones, computers, scooters, that type of thing," he said.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-18/lithium-battery-fire-phone-charger-students-building-carlton/103740394

There is a difference between lithium ION and lithium IRON but this seems to get lost in most media crap.

Sorry, but population of Victoria is ~7 million, + tourists on top of that, so it's probably fair to say that there are at least 50 million lithium-ion "devices" in Victoria, with "most" of them being charged most days.

& they're causing 1 fire a day ???

Compared to how many candle, gas, fat, petrol, bush ... fires ???

Please forgive me if I don't get too concerned!

Question: Are dashcams nice to have - or a necessity these days?

my expensive BlackVue DR750S-2CH Dash Cam the main front camera has gone to god. Apparently "common". FFS

So do you buy a cheap Shit one and have blurry images, buy another $ one - or dont bother... FwiW I never needed the footage for anything in the past.

Asking the same question myself right now. It was definitely a plus when I was driving truck into Melbourne every day but now days I tend to avoid high traffic places with passion. I had a Blackview but it failed to capture the deer that wrote off the triton for some reason. I'm off to WA in July with the camper but will travel through Melbourne and Adelaide at night to avoid traffic. Still, I'm trying to justify getting a dashcam. And if I do, which one. Not much point having one if it doesn't capture number plates clearly. Quite frankly, I'm bitterly disappointed with the quality and reliability of crap these days, regardless of what you pay for it.
 I'll be watching this space.

Nice to have, until you need it to back up a claim!

Viofo have always had a good rep, & my A119 is still going at most of 10 years!

I have 3 of these, 70mai 1S D06.
https://70mai.pl/en/produkty/dash-cams/
I did post awhile ago that the one on the 80 series, lost sound, apart from that one all 3 work well.
This mob as a few new models, the price is high, especially for the 360d one.
I've them reliable, good picture, voice control. I have installed a 128gb sd card in each of them, I do once a month reformat the sd cards.

Bird, the choice is yours, I happy to have in our vehicles, there are many brands on the market.

I have two BlackVue I think Dr 600 & dr 650 without going out to have a look. SD card packed up on one of them after a couple of years or so. They must be at least 10 years old by now. Haven’t touched them since I retired 7 years ago. Wow maybe they’re older than I thought. I did capture an event on one once & was showing some customer’s the next day, didn’t know one of the local constabulary had walked in & was looking over my shoulder. Said they would be interested in looking at that. They took the whole Dashcam, with my permission. When it was returned the cop said that’s a good camera. The bloke got done for overtaking 7 vehicles on a bend & forcing a car off the road that was coming the other way.

I ran  a Gator in the truck for the last 4-5yrs without a problem and I've bought a new one for my Ute and stuck the old one from the truck into the Mazda 3. I paid $129 for the first one and $149 for the second one that has GPS speed and tracking.  :cup:

You've seen images and vids from the first one on here.

considering the unit sells for 599 on its own, 500 for unit+remove+fitting seems cheap..

reading up on the sensors... series 1 v 2 apparently a large difference in recording at night... but most just report Sony Starvis - but not what series they use.

There’s plenty of them out there & if they do the job that’s all anyone wants. Thing is we all think the one we have is the best, & no one wants to be told that the one they bought is no good, doesn’t matter if it’s a Dashcam or anything else. I tend to spend on the more expensive products & maybe for that reason I’ve been happy with the items I’ve purchased to date.
