The "Black Dog" is always sitting just outside my backdoor, some days he gets his nose in the door, some days I can chase him right down the back yard, but every morning he's back there at the door waiting for me to slip.

PM me to have a chat, I've been/am there
spending the kids inheritance as fast as I can

Another hand up here for Bipolar Two.
Your post was very courageous because depression is a hard thing to talk about.
Know that, here at least, you are among friends, many of whom have experienced and understand depression.

I do not have depression and always wondered what it was all about.. "come on just dust yourself off was my attitude"

UNTIL..

Last year I lost my mate as some of you know to suicide and all I could think off through the whole process of the funeral plans was

"If only he knew how many people were grieving and what a massive hole he had left " How could he have not known ?

So no matter how bad the days get, please always talk to someone the loss of anyone is hard but I would be further wrecked if I knew a member on her was close to the edge and did not seek out one of us to talk to.

Bloody hats off to you and all the members on here who have opened up about their very personal struggles,  :cup: :cup: :cup:

some days it might seem like nobody cares but I can tell you there are lots of people who do, and although we have never personally met ..your important to me as another myswag member/camping brother and just as another Aussie bloke so you see your valued and respected in places you prob did not even know to people you prob had no idea about.

I have done lots of reading since my mate left us and I now understand more about that wretched black dog and just how cunning he can be.

Takes balls to stand up and shout out when you see him coming.. your  :cup: :cup: in my book for doing that.

Because as I have recently learnt the black dog only likes to hunt in the dark so the more we put the spotlight on him the better.

Kindest regards

How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?  (Homer J Simpson).

Go on, ask a mate "RUOK?"  You will feel better for it and so will he or she.

Well written Jet.

In my profession we see the acute of many mental health conditions and unfortunately for so many men it is a sad end to what looked from the outside to be such an honest and fulfilling life.

Men are very poor at discussing these issues and forums like this where it is acknowledged and respected by other forum members can only help open the discussion channels.

Hats of to the OP for being frank enough to bring it up and hope the 'black dog' soon disappears forever. Welcome back and enjoy what life still has to throw at you despite your recent tough times.

Great to have you back. So, we have more than 'Dubs' and CTs in common.

There have been times that the MySwag family has kept me sane - if that doesn't seem contradictory.

You are not alone, lots of us walk a similar road and are happy to talk.

A Late reply by me, but its good to have you back mate.
Your honesty is inspiring. After a couple of people very close to me got bitten by depression and myself teetering on the edge a few years ago, I can only imagine just how tough it was to take those first few steps forward. I know how hard it is to see past the fog.
But by doing so you are walking yourself out, and that's what's important.
It takes big cahoonas to put such a personal matter out in public, be it with friends or here with extended friends ;)
Good on you mate and from the bottom of my heart I wish you the best on the road to recovery.

Cheers
