Title: Newbie hello from Glen Innes NSW
Post by: Feathers on January 18, 2018, 08:25:50 PM
Hi all, I've been a lurker on the forum for some time. It's now time to join the fun.
Wife and I have been motor bike, kayak and tent campers forever, but this is our first foray into something towed.
We had bought a 2015 Triton 2wd ute as a run out model, and gull wing metal box, originally intended to take our tent camping to a new level, and act as a mover for bikes and kayaks. We are still slowly fitting it out with a kitchen, fridge, electrics etc.
Later, a 2005 Cub Supamatic on-road appeared for sale at the bottom of our street, which we initially ignored, as we weren't going to be a 'dinosour'. We had always scornfully called anything towed a dinosour - large, slow moving and should be extinct. Except box trailers. Boxies are OK. They're useful.
After several weeks of driving past the Cub on our way to work (and a couple of price drops), the damn thing followed us home one day.
Oops, now we are one of 'them' - a dinosour.
But hey, this camper towing isn't so bad.  Its even a bit cool. We like it. A LOT.
Kinda pleased to be a dinosour too, in a perverse sort of way.
So there you have it - an accidental dinosour.
Hang on a minute. An on-road, towed by a 2wd!!! Hells bells, should we even be on here??

Cheers, Feathers.

Welcome Feathers,

Your camping options have just increased by buying the Cub. Don't worry about 2WD as you can get to a lot of remote places with your new set up.

plenty of places to test the cub up around Glen, currently up that way with work myself (white rock solar farm).
Nice region

Many thanks for the warm welcome. Looking forward to getting on the road properly and hopefully catching some MySwaggers in our travels.
Hem, Love to catch up, but not too likely until temps return to civilised levels down your way. Have spent time dodging prawn trawlers in a kayak off Maclean in the past. Good times.
Black Diamond, here you go, just for you. One of our first goes last year. Storm King Dam Stanthorpe. Love your sage advice regarding things with wheels or tits - so true.
Thanks Snow. Nice around the Hawksbury - had the odd adventure there in the '80s.
Hi Rob. I hope to find some good spots. IMHO, good ground clearance is nearly as good as 4WD. Of course, ground clearance and 4WD is even better.
Small world, Vern. All your windmill bits come past our place.

Feathers.

Welcome Feathers, enjoy the Cub and all your future travels.
Maybe a shot of the Cub amongst the "stones" on a misty Glen Innes morning would satisfy those looking for a pic.
