I’m following DePasquali and Heimgartner...I look forward to seeing them progress throughout the year... if they can minimise silly mistakes I’ll be happy 👹

Great coverage, NOT, WTF is going on with the timing, nothing on the shootout and no times on the totem pole. ???

Lets hope it's just teething issues with the new graphics? Fox wasn't any better, Missed about 5 laps of racing at the start because they were showing replays of non-important events that happened on the 1st lap, spent half the race wondering what lap they were on cause the lap counter graphic was only intermittently on, they no longer show which cars had pitted or not so it was hard to work out the true position from the totem.

Maybe Ch7 in it's efforts to "dumb down" the technical component of the sport to attract a new wider audience doesn't think fans want to know the relevant info about the race....... like what lap there on and who's leading?

SVG 5 from 5, wet and dry.   Needs to break his collar bone more often.    He definitely likes the wet and so does young Brodie by the looks.

Couldn't agree more. I liked him more when he was driving for us of course, but what a bloody drive.

the beginning of the end for Sandown? 7500 new houses on the 110ha site -  7499 new whingers, it took less than that to close Amaroo and many other tracks.

Quote
Dandenong Council is warning that Melbourne Racing Club’s plan to end horse racing at Sandown and redevelop the sprawling racetrack into a new suburb the size of Wangaratta may create traffic congestion and cram in too much housing.

The racing club wants to rezone the 112-hectare site in Melbourne’s south-east from “special use” to housing so it can sell the land for a far higher price. The money would then be poured back into its $300 million redevelopment of Caulfield racecourse.

There has been a racing track on the land since 1888 and it has been both a horse racetrack and motor raceway in its current form since the 1960s. The grandstand at the racetrack, built in 1962 for the motor racing circuit, was heritage listed in 2019.

The racing club approached the council about rezoning the land more than two years ago. The MRC has now drafted a formal rezoning plan and will brief Dandenong’s 11 councillors on it on April 16.

The plan proposes 7500 new homes being built on the sprawling site, divided by the small Mile Creek, which takes up about 10 per cent of the land to be developed, while about 10 per cent of the land would be set aside for parkland.

Another Iconic race track headed for extinction ..   Just like Surfers Paradise Raceway . Or it will end up as a highly restricted  venue for the odd corporate / driver training sessions like Lakeside Raceway .
Guess the old saying of "If you build it, they will come "  rings true in the worst way .

It will easily get planning approval for rezoning.  A stones throw from Springvale Train Station and Eastlink Freeway.

It is likely too expensive to keep for the small number of events per year vs what they can do with the $$$ to improve the other racecourses.

that would be the best you can hope for, but 112ha in suburbia where theres not a vacant block - think how many billion 2ft sq townhouse/units slums they will cram in  there... its a developers wettest dream.

.. and sadly to its own detriment as Jonesy says close to freeway/public transport etc? few back handers cash in brown bags and it will be rezoned
I hope it lasts, but is it more of a deferring the inevitable?

Surprised its lasted this long. Same as Calder Park or Caulfield horse racing, that land would be worth kagillions where its located...

Not always easy to make a racetrack turn a profit these days.

Insurances are through the roof..... etc etc.

Then someone says, you could turn that into x number of housing blocks and you can retire.

Unless you a very wealthy and that's no guarantee either , most will sell up like a shot.
Very similar to farming land..... bust ya arse from sun up to sunset.
Great grandad, then grandad, then dad, then the son says whoa, hang on a minute.
Bust my arse all day or sell for 10 million and retire.

I hate seeing racetracks close..... but you'll never stop it.
What was once out in the boonies is now Res A

You should never walk out of the public toilets sniffing your fingers.

Itll never happen to Symons in Tassie. Itll be decades if not centuries before houses creep out that far!!

Not unless some chinese or other overseas investors offer silly money for the farm that the track sits on  :-[

They said that about Amaroo and Oran Parks... :(
have a look at how many 4-700k (guessing) houses are at Oran now. https://www.google.com/maps/@-34.0046371,150.7324783,2573m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en
Most of Amaroo is still empty land - http://aerialf1.com/oceania/australia/amaroo/

The killer is 'lets build houses for those race fans that wanna live close by' 5yrs later the house gets sold to someone who hates noise
