Title: 4wd series on Youtube
Post by: wakychapmans on July 05, 2018, 09:50:11 AM
Since I helped to well and truly hijack Carlisle's thread (here - http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=54906.msg955272#msg955272 (http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=54906.msg955272#msg955272)) about his TV show (sorry)...

It was suggested that I start a new thread about 4wd & adventure YouTube series.

So here it is.

If you find a decent series worth watching, list it here. My personal preference is for videos that are 20 mins+... but pretty much anything that is interesting will hold my attention...

Ronny Dahl:
Ronny does some great stuff. He's Western Australian based and over the last few years has posted a massive volume of stuff. Some of his recent trips have been 9-10 episodes of around 30mins each with one at a time released weekly. His full video listing is here - https://www.youtube.com/user/RonBacardi666/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/RonBacardi666/videos)

Ronny did a trip across the Anne Beadel recently (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KREaSl8m8M0&t=300s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KREaSl8m8M0&t=300s)) and the big trip before that was the Kimberly (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1CUIY4_948&list=PLR6JepWZ7T69xCqtf2F3c-Q4XMXjBXAOG (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1CUIY4_948&list=PLR6JepWZ7T69xCqtf2F3c-Q4XMXjBXAOG))

4xoverland:
(Andrew St Pierre White) used to be based in South Africa, now in Perth. He has a huge amount of older videos from Africa in general and recently did a run down the Canning in his heavily modified Troopy. (the entire build of that vehicle is online too) - his stuff can be found here -
 https://www.youtube.com/user/4xforum/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/4xforum/videos)

Gavin Gillett:
(another Western Australian) did a great Kimberly and a Canning trip. His stuff is here - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM3lzi1dvOFbmi9fiMqktsw/videos (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM3lzi1dvOFbmi9fiMqktsw/videos)

Geko Expeditions:
is a good one too. Based in Europe they have some amazing Russian videos. No voice overs but great imagery - https://www.youtube.com/user/geko4x4com/videos (https://www.youtube.com/user/geko4x4com/videos)

stream it to the big TV and relax...

Both Ronny and Andrew (4xoverland) do a heap of product reviews as well and they can sometimes be *very* brutally honest. (this is good thing).

4WD Action:
(don't judge me ok), if you can get past the constant ads for the parent companies products... the 4wding bits are actually quite good.

They must have been different earlier on. My wife and I have been watching them lately after discovering them not long ago, and while I admit they always make sure to get a VMS shot in and they say "dominator" far more than they need to, I find their current content to be pretty low on product placement compared to some others.

And Graham loves his Dmax.

That said, I really enjoy this show. And when you consider it costs absolutely nothing to watch, with no actual ads, I think it is more than reasonable that they drop a few names. Unlike streaming shows off the likes of Tenplay where you get bombarded with the same ad again and again.

Thanks for this one, great cinematography and production, good mix of talk, experiences and scenic shots and venturing beyond our shores makes this one a winner.

Yeah, I don't mind their shows and don't find the product placement too obtrusive, I had always heard bad things about it so had a really low expectation, so have been pleasantly surprised when I have recently watched a few episodes.

Their one year timetable they have pushed out too two and a half, I am more than a little jealous. I also realised the other thing I liked about it, that is the lack of the typical Australiana type music that people doing travel video's in Australia so often seem to use.

I've watched nearly all of "Seek Adventure" on Youtube. Young bloke getting out and about and having a go.
Graham Cahill's "AuSolo" is good. Way better than his 4wd Action efforts.
One bloke I cannot stand is that whinging South African bloke. Only need to hear half a sentence from his mouth and I'm done.
Cheers, Mike.

Picked up on this guy in the last few weeks - Tyler Thompson.

He's put a lot of effort into two episodes he's shared on his channel where he's basically shown his full camping/4x4 trip to Moreton Island.  Some good info on the island and he seems pretty good at driving some tricky bits and pieces.   I suspect he started off filming the trips he does with his young son - and it grew from there.  I find this type of content pretty cool as it's not 'professional' as such but still well presented and edited.

Seek Adventure
AusSolo graham does everything himself the channel is EcoMuse Images is what your looking for to get the ausolo stuff.
Ronny Dahl.
Fire to Fork did some audio work for one of the interveiws but got knocked back because of the reduction in the loudness in their voices due to the wind reduction work.
Built not Bought (Sam Eyles).
Roothy for his youtube stuff (still hard to watch his vid about milo to museum him and that 40 got me into 4wding when 4wd action was 4wd monthly).
4wd action (the zero dollar zook stuff is a goto at times when bored because its funny watching them drive it like its their big 4wd knowing you can take it easy in one).
sick puppy but they have gotten a bit boring for me.
terrain tamer they do some interesting stuff like their mustering stuff.
4xoverland but again gotten a bit stale when its video after video day after day its why i like grahams stuff its time between each that have me watch them.

He’s actually an  Australian citizen believe it or not, born in UK to Australian mother and NZ father.

And the young guy who did Seek Adventure has pulled the pin.

Says making videos takes fun out of camping.

Same. Just when I was abit jaded with all the other adventure/4wd youtubers, he came along and made it all okay again. Hopefully he'll be back. Not holding my breath though.
Cheers, Mike.

JMXploring - Young couple from W.A. living it large in their Troopy.

Good vibes as they travel around Australia.

Funny how they found some good camping spots only a few hours from us and I've not heard of these spots - good on them.

Used to watch a bit of intents .

Saw his farewell video the other day. Liked his comment where he said he knew he’d get a lot more views if he jacked his wagon up a few more inches, fitted 35s, cut his exhaust off and had a bikini model on his thumbnail.

But that wasn’t what he was about.

Nor me.
