Ecomate leaking
« on: June 30, 2015, 07:29:35 PM »
Hi Swaggers, after lurking here for a bit we've joined and are looking for some advice on our hard floor. We bought our Ecomate series 3 explorer hard floor camper last year and have had her out for 2 trips with no problems, then our 3rd trip to the gold coast last week we had her in the rain for the first time. It leaked like a sieve , first all along the kitchen side then woke up to both sides and roof saturated and dripping on us...not very impressed for $16000 spent ! So my question is what are our options & is this normal for canvas? We seasoned it when new as advised by ecomate in Rockhampton. TIA

Welcome to myswag mamabear. How did you season it? Did it leak when you seasoned it?

Nothing like a good bit of rain to properly season your camper.
It's not unusual for then to leak a bit until they've copped a good downpour.
It'll probably be fine from now on.

Agree with GeoffA it might require a few good soakings to completely become water tight. This isn't unusual.

Thanks D4D , No leaks when seasoned 3 or 4 times with the hose so we were very surprised in the rain lol.

Rang ecomate and they've said to make a list of the issues we've got with the camper n bring it back to discuss what they can do. Discovered some very shoddy workmanship issues as well as the leaking so fingers crossed they'll all get fixed/resolved (hopefully )

mamabear,

In my experience, seasoning with a hose just doesn't cut it, no matter how many times you do it.

Welcome to the forum.

Agree with Geoff, if its not leaking with the hose you haven't got it wet enough

It's a design fault,  mine does the same, particularly that area at the kitchen.
I decided the only real solution was to put a tarp over,  so i have a tarp in place of the annex. Only use it if rain possible  (& up here thats pretty much every time i go camping) ?

Hi Moggy ,
Ours is still under warranty, is there anything else we can do to waterproof it as we bought it to get away from using tarps as we did with our old soft floor.

Not good by the look of the pics. Have you gone straight to modcon since they are the distributor I believe. Hope it works out for ou. Nothing worse then putting your hard earned dollars down for something that doesn't live up to expectations
