A question has been asked by PM, can we bring our canine freind..

This question I'd thought about answering later, I thought Id leave it to the attendees to decide.

IMO (in my opinion) I have no problems with our canine freinds atending. I realise that many mutts are extended family members  and go everywhere all the time (as our K-dog does)

So, I have no problems at this stage with our canine freinds attanding as long as they are sociable, adjusted to other hounds, dont bark at 6AM and are appropriately registered.

If anyone has a dislike of canine's being around, let me know by PM.  We can think about how we  adress that situation down the track (ie, caniane free camp area, or canine defined area)

This is a side issue at this stage, as Ive said in PM's, if youre interested, we'll work around the details closer 2 the date.

Not shure wat you mean, but if you need "higher quality" accomodation, there are a number of very close by  accomodation sources that could offer an alternative.  PM me if you have special requirements.

From the interest so far, we are close to doing something on this date.  Ive told the Recreation Reserve Booking Officer I'd get back to her in two weeks to confirm a booking.  The interest so far is beyond my expectations.

I know its a long way out, but if youd like to come and experience a bit of Wombat Hills (Tolmie in 1880) hospitality, post up, no obligation.

Good stuff goldie.

I reckon we have about reached critical mass here!  There are a few swaggers who I reckon havnt seen this thread yet who I think will   jump at it when they see it! They may be away, indisposed, or just offline.  We nearly have 20 potential participants, which was my bottom line  for hiring the local Recreation Reserve when posting this up.

Hope you can make it, the locals and I will make it a trip to remember. 2 me, thats what its about, giving swaggers a great escape,  meeting the locals and having a good time.

Thought id just bump this up for the weekend.

Ive attached a couple of pics of Dandongadale Falls and Lake Cobbler (which feeds the falls).  Ive put this destination down as a potential day trip (high clearance 2wd standard) on one of the days. Bear in mind tho, that it will be early after the seasonal road closures end, but should be acheivable as most likely others will have had a few days to open it up for us!!   ;D

Starting to wonder if there'll be any roads left up there with all the rain getting round, DSE still hasn't finished it all from 18 months ago

Hi Mace, please put us down as possibles.  We live on the wrong side of the river so don't get any long weekend but if our Simpson trip doesn't go on I will have plenty of leave up my sleeve...  If OK we will have 2 x dogs with us.  They have a great temperament, very docile, get along with people well and love going camping!

Well, but us down as a very definte possible maybe.

This is a good opportunity to get to meet a few swaggers in person. Who knows, we may build it in to part of a bigger trip, but maybe not.

Rutherglen seems like an interesting diversion on the way there, on the way back, or maybe as a day trip...

The Rutherglen/Chiltern/Beechworth/Yackendandah quartet are a great touring set for those interested in early australian history and good robust reds/muscats/ports.  Close to Fivid too!

Only 6Km from our front door to Morris' cellar door!  Lovely Port!!!  And Gehrigs who are close by make a nice white port if anyone is partial to that.

And yes, the whole area is full of lots of history of which I know bugger all but am slowly picking up bits and pieces.  I remember when I was a kid learning a bit about the Chinese burning towers near Beechworth but have not been and found them since we moved back here.  Currently the Buckland Valley is the main focus in my historical learnings.  Not much left to see but locating the old mines, talking to people from the area, reading up on the past is really interesting - it isn't just a great camping / hunting / 4wding place!
