W.A has introduced speed cameras for boaties in an effort to make waterways safer...

Yeah they should take a photo of those dangerous cyclist’s number plates and issue the fines and license demerit points to the dangerous bastards......
Lucky their bikes are insured as part of their registration fees so they can pay the hospital bills of people injured by their reckless actions....

Due to the constant stream of complaints from boaties & board riders both blaming each other for doing dangerous things, Maritime Safety set up a surveillance camera to monitor the Creek & see who was doing what, but it didn't prove quite as successful as planned ...
Yep, we can tell that the boat involved was a 4.3m Quintrex, rego number that, white with a red flash up the side & a blue canopy, fitted with a 75hp Yamaha, with 2 blokes on board & that they were leaving the Creek when a board rider cut them off, forcing them to throttle back in a dangerous place & almost causing an accident :'(
The bloke who caused it ??? Ohh, he was riding a white board & wearing a black wetsuit ... >:D

Be interesting to see how they set the speed camers up, would have thought it would be pretty hard to read a boats rego number ..from a three quarter rear / front view, due to the spray / wake thrown up .. Guess it depends on the speed and water conditions at the time ..
On cars, The XD Falcon /and Escort fold down number plate holders minus the spring and a cable to raise / lower it, used to work pretty good at hiding the rego number from the cameras .. :angel:

There'll be new regulations on number boards needing to be seen from all angles and 2ft sq letter/numbers

In the Brisbane river they already do it in the city section of the river which has a speed limit 40knots, but jet skiers were ignoring that until the water police started doing weekend blitzes.
Just as an FYI, as I was once given a warning by Police who were sitting in their car at a boat ramp as I came doing 8 or 9 knots instead of the 6 knots which I should have been doing. So this policeman comes down to the ramp the let me know I was lucky as he wasn’t able to get his speed camera out in time to officially check my speed.
I then checked with a mate who is a Policeman who confirmed the guns can be altered from K/M to knots at the flick of a switch, but the majority wouldn’t because like him, they don’t know the rules around boats.

I see no issue with it.
Its great fun when you are even at anchor and someone Jetski or Boat, comes flogging past at speed.
The ol girl was making coffee once down below on ours when a jetski wally gave us a fly-by.
We always stuck to 6 knots at Tin Can in the nominated spots.
Once out and moving, we would cruise at 26 - 28 knots.
We would always give a wide berth to anyone we passed etc.
We also got a warning once on our rego # size.
Being a planning hull, IE faster than a lot, we had to have bigger numbers than a chug a lug or a wind stealer.
