A fire is a fire.
True but different outcomes in a haystack vs hi-rise underground carpark or RoRo car carrier but I'll leave you with Bowen and Bandt to work it out.
If you're a revhead then a Tesla makes sense over hot Audi/BMW/Merc ICEs as they're all computers on wheels nowadays and cop the hefty depreciation and leave the out of warranty ownership to aspirationals. If you think you're buying an EV to change the weather then I have this bridge to sell you in Baltimore.

So for sensible folk that want to keep their licence we just want cheap functional transport so that rules out EVs as the Pros of car ownership costs discovered-
https://www.msn.com/en-au/motoring/news/hertz-to-sell-off-even-more-evs-as-depreciation-losses-mount/ar-AA1nIUCP
Why I've ordered a Corolla Cross hybrid for the missus to replace her 3 yr old Kia petrol shopping trolley and she might get it after Xmas. In any case with NVES starting Jan1 there's no way Toyota are selling it late this year when they'll want some plant food credits in the easy first year they can get for it.

There's no Great Evil conspiracy against consumers within engineering, manufacturing and supply. Just the many tradeoffs incurred to satisfy diverse tastes, priorities and wallets. But first comes all the insatiable Gummint eggsperts, nanny-staters and usual suspects.

Smart move by Elon to rollout the supercharger network to flog Teslas but there's no economic case for them long term as he would well know-
https://www.msn.com/en-au/money/news/tesla-axing-its-supercharger-team-puts-the-entire-industry-in-the-dark/ar-AA1nWeuT

So he gave away Tesla's NACS charging protocol for free and now most of the carmakers are adopting it as a Standard. Ultimately all EV owners have to share a ubiquitous system and rely on taxpayer handouts to fund it. Consequently public charging will always lag EV sales with city congestion and severe shortcomings in remote and regional areas. Meanwhile Toyota San chuckle as the long order book keeps rolling in and they hybridise their complete range while the EV lossmakers scramble to do likewise to stay afloat.

So more exciting EV news with Tritium down the gurgler and Tesla pulling back on the economics of chargers now we have Freewire down the plughole-
https://electrek.co/2024/05/05/freewire-closes-its-hq-and-lays-off-just-about-everyone/

So much for Made in Australia and all those Green jobs with picking winners on the taxpayer dime or membership slushfunds-
“We need to innovate, think outside the box and investigate all potential solutions to give us the best possible chance at building a network that is fit-for-purpose."
https://thedriven.io/2023/12/21/nrma-rolls-out-its-first-battery-backed-and-fastest-dc-chargers/
That was never going to fly charging up the charger battery low and slow and letting EVs suck it dry high and fast in order to get around the awful cost of getting the required power there in the first place. Never mind rational physics and economics it all runs on feelings and e-motion nowadays and nut-zero here we come.

Fire sale time now the early adopters are stuck with them or copping awful depreciation while Toyota hybrid owners are chuckling-

Early days for yours truly when an old millionaire horse trader gave me some profound advice that stuck-

Son you can sell anything if the price is right even if you have to pay somebody to take it away and that's called rubbish  :cup:

Yeah and the energy grid is under pressure now, so how the fork does that work if you triple that power drain in the current climate of power supply?  ::)

Doesn't SA pull power from the "National" grid due to not having a reliable source of power supply?  ???

Just read an article about a Boss of Geely , a Chinese Auto . He used the rouse of attending a European Auto Salon to spirit his entire Family to the US, it is said his Company is 40 BILLION $ down the tube ! Big Manufactures like BYD and so are subsidized and will get bailed out , but the writing is on the wall for EV'S becoming the mainstay , one only has to read the latest pronouncements from MB,Vw,Toyota , GM and a host of others to see this . Albo stop subsidizing/Pouring Billion's of Taxpayer funds down this Sinkhole !

Hmm, we are Screwed.

All this Smart technology, think about this.
They can switch you off in an eye blink to your electricity, your internet, your banking, your fuel supply.

Our government wants us to become reliant on Green electricity, renewables, because "It's environmentally friendly"
It's control.
Let that sink in.

Just wondering,
In 50 years time, are owners of old EV's going to hold Show & Shine shows?

I can’t imagine there will be the same level of excitement in 60 years for a 2025 Ford  E Mustang Mach-E as there is today for a 1965 Ford Shelby GT350 or any other classic Mustang.

Hybrids are cheapest to run-
https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/why-owners-are-scared-to-drive-their-electric-cars/ar-BB1mDpBW
No doubt due to massive depreciation of EVs as the bubble has burst-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEpzhC555O4
Word has got around to the subsidised flippers and leasers that private buyers don't want them used killing the residuals and ultimately impacting new sales and leasing-

“We’re going to have to talk to all the regulators, because they really bet on pure EVs.."

Oh they bet really big Jim so you go and tell the dreamers how it's gunna be if they don't want to see massive car plant closures and handing all those jobs to China. LOL

It's getting harder and harder to ignore the bleeding obvious-
https://www.msn.com/en-au/money/markets/lithium-ion-batteries-are-causing-more-than-10-000-fires-a-year-in-australia-waste-chiefs-say-an-urgent-management-plan-is-needed/ar-BB1oyyUF
So the brains trust have no real management or recycling plan and yet they want to fill the joint with lots of really big lithium batteries?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rpx-hY84aiY
Insurance underwriters are going to put the mockers on this fantasy long before batteryfication of transport and fickle energy firming hits serious resourcing issues.

With the new NVES rules coming into play next year all cars are getting dearer as ICE turns to hybrid to escape penalty taxing early on as we see here with  bread and butter transport like the Hyundai i30-
https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-news/popular-cheap-cars-price-jumps-12000-2025-hyundai-i30-new-hybrid-range-might-be-worth-it

As if money printing hadn't already impacted car prices but never fear the climate changers have the solution to affordability with expensive BEVs-
https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-news/why-current-electric-cars-wont-save-us-we-should-embrace-smaller-cars-like-the-suzuki-swift
They're always thinking of us in Canberra  ;D

Nothing more to add really-
https://www.macrobusiness.com.au/2024/08/the-tesla-ev-bubble-bursts/
except there's still no news on when the missus Corolla Cross hybrid is scheduled for production although satisfying the patience of RAV4 buyers looks promising. Keep your eye out for a plethora of new petrol hybrid fourbies once the NVES really bites  :cup:
