Day 1 - Thursday, 26 July 2012

Day 1

With the countdown finished it was time for 5 car loads of MySwaggers to meet at the Morayfield twin BP’s for an early start of 3am.  Yogi & Boo Boo (Amanda) were met by V8ute, DaznBec, Paul4Nat and Jetcrew for the drive to meet Frostd and Rusty at the Rainbow Beach Shell for 6am and Nick08 at Inskip Point.  During the drive V8ute noticed sparks coming from Yogi’s 80 series, nothing serious just the turbo working overtime with the weight of all the donations.  We arrived safely at the Rainbow Beach Shell for quick fill up, barge ticket, breaky and to meet up with Frostd and Rusty.  Whilst at the bakery a few fishermen also heading for Fraser commented that they had heard about a large group heading for Fraser and if we were part of the group – of course we are!!  All 7 in convoy travelled to Inskip Point where we were joined by Nick08 now making 8 vehicles and camper trailers and 33 people.  Fraser just being a short drive down the track onto the Mantaray Barge and off onto Fraser Island, you could pick up the excitement in the air whilst all aired down prior to hitting the beach.  Unfortunately Yogi needed to put a little more air in one tyre after being aring down to his usual pressure but with the additional weight of  all  the donations he need to put back in about 7psi, which V8ute (Simon) was more than happy to help.  All except for Frostd and Nick08 managed to get onto the first barge, which we all waited across the bay for their arrival onto Fraser.  The last of the Fraser Fiasco 2012 stubbie coolers and stickers were given out in readiness for the first traditional beer, Frostd and Nick08 joined the group and the first beers were cracked.  Everyone was now ready to roll down 75 Mile Beach in search of a campsite that could potentially fit us all in.  Yogi led the group with Amanda providing some commentary for those who had never ventured to Fraser Island before.  The beach was flat, the sand nice and hard for an easy drive and the timing was perfect as we hit the beach right on low tide.  We pulled into the first campsite just beyond Cathedral Beach to find it quite full, then onto the next which wouldn’t fit us all in and then DaznBec, Jetcrew, Frostd, V8ute and Paul4Nat found a campsite a little further up which could possibly fit us all in but just had to spread out a little and had some nice flat spots, here is where MySwag would find their new home for the next 10 days.  The views from camp were amazing.  Everyone found a spot and setup begun followed by some hard earned drinks and relaxation after an early start for some.  GLC donated some red whistles which Yogi and Amanda decided might be a good idea for the kids to have in case there was a dingo and they needed help.  Paul (Paul4Nat), Yogi, Lockie (DaznBec – son) and Daz (DaznBec) decided to set up their fishing rods for a fish, unfortunately nothing was caught but this was only day 1 and Lockie was determined to start his entry for the Kid’s Fraser Fiasco Fish-Off 2012.  The night ended with a few drinks and an early one for all to bed.

Airing down Inskip Point little after 6am.

Yogi dropped a little too much air out and need Symon (V8ute) to pump his tyre back up.

Waiting for the barge with Nic08

View from the Barge of a group of Swaggers waiting on Fraser Island

The customary beer when you arrive on Fraser. Troy, Dazza78, Jetcrew & Frostd

Our camp, on the eastern beach of Fraser Island. Known as Ramsey Street, due to how close we were. We couldnt find an area to accomodate all swaggers, so we were spread out out 300-400 metres.

Nice one Dazza78, we really did get some great weather and the dawns were particularly nice.
