Title: G'day and Makka's intro
Post by: makka10 on June 04, 2013, 04:57:26 PM
Hi everyone. Its Makka here. I joined My Swag a week or so ago after a mate told me about it and have been reading the great posts. I have a soft top camper which is towed by a 2011 Prado. Currently planning a trip in July 2013 from Blue Mountains - Bourke - Tib - Broken Hill - Menindee - Naranderra - Blue Mountains. I haven't been out to Tib since i was a kid with my parents (thats a while ago). Just me, my kids and my dad and I hope the kids can get some of the same memories I have kept from my trips out there with my folks and they will want to keep going outback. Unfortunately my wife is not too fussed with camping in the outback so we spend more time near the coast.

I think I have most of my plan sorted but for the first night. I want to stay somewhere between home and Bourke but past Dubbo (only because I don't really want to stay in a big town the first night and also to have a shorter drive to Bourke on day 2). I have thought about Nevertire and Warren Weir but have no idea if there is camping opportunities there.

Would be most grateful for any suggestions.

Why not Narromine or Cobar both very good little towns.  I have been through both and am planning to stop there in October on my way to the Flinders Ranges.

G'day Makka and welcome mate.

I leave it to some of the swaggers out beyond Dubbo way to give you some advice on your first night out that way. Should be plenty of options for you I would think.

Hey thanks for the welcomes and to Terry W4 for your suggestions. I read one Trip Report which described a camp at Nyngan. I will keep reading and look for any other options to explore.  :D

G'day Makka,

just noticed a place called Macs reserve camp in the Camps 6 book. It's near Narromine and on the Macquarie river. It might be an option for you on your trip? Not sure if anyone else knows what its like. Might be worthwhile posting the same question in the Trips thread?

Cheers

Thx for all your welcomes. Can't believe how the time has flown since i posted. Heading off on Monday. Changed trip plan a bit and instead of going across to Tiboobura from Bourke have decided to head down the Darling and end up at Wentworth with a side trip to broken Hill for a couple of days along the way. If your in Sydney or the blue mountains where I am you will know the weather is rubbish at the moment so Im hoping that its not this bad out west while I'm away (a little selfish I know). I hope the roads don't get closed though a quick check on BOM this morning indicated that there has been minimal rain out west where we are going. Spending a couple of nights hear and there but really looking forward to just being out. I spoke to a mate last night who drove from Louthe to Cobar during the week and they said it was a bit slippery and there was more rain on the way. Does anyone know how things are at present out there?
