Well after living in Moranbah for almost 5 years and after the last 12 months of marital issues I have decided to make a move for the better. And the winner is Rockhampton! This has been one of the hardest decisions I have had to make in awhile. Mackay was another option but even with some awesome friends I have in Mackay I just feel Rocky is a better move for me.
So once the move is sorted and I'm settled in. My plan is to get my ute canopy finally done and get back out camping as I'm going though some major campfire withdrawals ATM.
I will still be working in Moranbah just back into the camp for me.

All the best with the move mate!
-
All the best for the move Brett. I hope all is working out and you settle well.

Hope it works out for you Brett, how far is from Rocky to Moranbah? Will you do X amount of shifts straight and then have a block of time off?

All the best mate but Rocky ???..........Hope all works out.... ;D ;D

Personally I think Rocky is better than Mackay as a town. Everything is cheaper as local business are yet to add the mining tax compared to the greater Mackay area. Land and Housing is cheaper. Rocky dosen't feel over crowded like Mackay.
Anyway I almost ended up going to Townsville...

Now you'll have all of the CT MySwag travellers stopping in on their Bruce Highway/Highway 1 travels! ;D

Yeah Marc I work a 5 - 4 Roster. 5 days, 5 off, 4 nights, 5 off, 2 days 3 nights, 4 off then back to the start again. The two 5 off are over weekends.
Over the past few months I have been away for every 5 off break so its pointless me having a 4 bedroom house to look after when I'm never home other than to work. Plus company housing is in high demand so I will let someone else bring there family out here to live.

Good choice Brett I moved to Rockahmpton over 10 years ago from Olympic dam in far nth S.A i really like it here very central to a lot of great camping areas. The wifes parents have been in Moranbah for over 20 years i've been there a couple of times nothing wrong with the town just difficult to get hold of some items when you want them although no different than any other mining town. . We'll have to look at running a trip at some stage. Cheers Paul.

That's because it's a s***hole! I couldn't wait to get out of there after uni... have a couple of Rockhampton summers and you'll know what I'm on about. :D

Best of luck mate.

I would be in that or even just catch up for a beer. I let you know once things are sorted.

Come on Symon I know you really do love rocky you don't have to hide it. I have lived in rocky before (1994-1996) and the summer weather is no hotter than the Bah. Just the beach is only 30 mins away instead of 2 hours.

Brett we will look forward to catching up over a couple of rums, some time soon if your up for it

All the best with the move Rocky isn't to bad a place to call home i guess. And your right about Mackay being over priced
When i was doing my Apprenticeship one of my tradesman hated the place with a passion he used to tell me that the Fitzroy river is the a**hole of the world and Rocky is 40 miles up it
Cheers Jason

Jeez Brett Hope the move goes well, nice of you to make room for us, as well be moving to Moranbah in a month... but in all seriousness i hope you enjoy Rocky just buy a house on a hill fair bit of water heading that way at the moment from what i can tell.

Best of luck Brett. I lived in Rocky from 1981 to 1985 and loved the place. :police: Had a boat then and loved the river and the coast. Have a son there now, so still visit the place every couple of months. Kev

I only really have two good memories of Rocky -
1. Beers at the Criterion on a stinking hot day
2. Meeting my wife at the uni
Like you say, at least Yeppoon is only 30 minutes away... I do agree about Mackay being seriously overpriced, you can't get a tin shack here for less than $500k.

Move onwards and upwards. Life can hand you many loses or gains depending on your outlook. If you always see the positive in every negative, then life is good and you'll be sucessful in life, a true Aussie Battler. There will be times when you'll recap on the past and think What If. Just remember to think What If That Didn't Happen ... well you wouldn't be the person you are today ... and in your case ... a man with a flash fourbie ... heaps of mates ... a camping fetish ... and a love of beer and a job! Hey Life's Good!
Have a great time planning your 'new' life ...
