Don't know why people think that standard shocks and springs on soft roaders are going to be any good with proper camper trailers and caravans.
Probably because it's all new!

Love the idea of wood + bathroom scales for towball weight.
Unfortunately emptying the box on its own didn't help, but still yet to get around to weighing to see what I'm working with. Just using bathroom scales makes it easier

Another option is to move the spare off the front to the rear gate. Depending on how the gate is swung, canvas options when put up and a great mount. That will drop the weight a bit and also add some to the rear for a bit of lift.

Towball weight was only 135kg with the box empty.

Car is rated to 150, so no problems there.

Edit* 140kg with box and trailer full :)

It's a rear fold camper so the spare would be very much in the way if it was mounted at the rear.

Just had another look at your connection, and your weight seems okay.

You describe it as "bumpy/ juttery"

Is it bad handling?

Or noisy?
If it is this then it might as simple as the hitch bouncing in the towbar.   Tightening the anti-rattle bolt in hitch will solve that.  I also assume you know overrun brakes clunk as you stop and start if you aren't smooth.

It was bad handling. Very bouncy in the car, wife had a sore neck from the drive just on the freeway. Pedders guy said people describe it as Porpoise-ing, feels like bouncing forward almost.

It wasn't noisy.
