I dont buy the pilot fatigue bit .. Over reliance on computers to fly and check systems has led to aircrews switching off and boredom, At best the only time the aircrew fly a modern passenger  aircraft is in the first and last 20 minutes of most flights ..

Another Australian race track goes the way of the dodo

Benalla Auto Club (BAC) has confirmed that the embattled Wakefield Park Raceway is closed until further notice, effective September 1.

As first reported by Speedcafe.com, the circuit had been set to go into closedown mode given its restricted programme of race meetings rendered its operations unviable.

Already, a Motorsport Australia state championship meeting in mid-September had been cancelled, as reported last month.

Wakefield Park and owner BAC has been left reeling by July’s New South Wales Land and Environment Court ruling which has placed significantly tighter noise restrictions on the Goulburn circuit.

Going forward, it is restricted to no more than 30 days’ worth of race meetings per year, less than half of what BAC had been seeking as a compromise, and less also than what Goulburn Mulwaree Council had sought.

Even then, the ‘equivalent event’ system which the LEC has imposed means that Wakefield Park would be unable to use the other 335 days of the year for any other purpose anyway.

All because they got 2 complaints from nearby residents…..who just happened to be living there for lots of years ??
The council got involved, restrictions were going to kill them, so they went to the Land & environment court and they then really killed them !!

A lucky couple. I wonder what the cause was? Grass? Aftermarket accessories? Will it be found out?

Will it be found out?

Can't see anybody going out there to try to do an autopsy on what remains!, so probably not until it happens again in Suburbia.

They managed to save a sleeping bag, blankets and a satellite phone
The couple spent the night shivering under a shade cover, with only a sleeping bag to keep Sandy warm.

That picture of their camp looks like they were able to get a crapload of gear out in 90sec? and there's a 4.5kg gas bottle burnt in the car, but they saved a 9kg bottle for their camp stove?

I got that impression, too. Maybe photo stock for the media. Although, it has the Police symbol attached.

I dunno... I reckon when the Shit was hitting the fan you'd manage to get a lot of stuff out just launching it out the back doors... also depends how it was all packed... in draws or just in the back of the car

yeah, probably. It might have even all been rolled up in the tarp in the back? Not hard to open a door and just drag $#!t out.
