Kids Bikes
« on: June 03, 2014, 04:00:44 PM »
Hi Guys, 18 days until we leave!  ;D (We are travelling up the Oodnadatta track on the way to Alice) We are all very excited and have started our final preparations- just need to pack the camper now!
Just wondering if those of you travelling with kids are bringing the kids' bikes at all? (our kids are 3 and 7 yrs)

Thanks,
Mrs Shrek!

We are not taking the bikes on this trip.

The only 'suitable' places for them to ride them would be while in Alice Springs, Kulgera and Yulara, and then only around the caravan park, and it is the busiest time if year up there so I would imagine a fair bit of traffic.

Also depending on how they are stored, it is just more time getting them on and off everyday which could become a bit tedious.

With the amount of kids going, I think there will be too much going on for our two to even bother to ride them.

No bikes for us, to much hassle getting them on and off for the amount of stops we are doing

I said to my son, no bikes you can play with the other kids  ;D (also means no bike injury's to deal with)
They going to be so busy going from tent to tent, they probably wont have time to ride anyway.

Just noticed today someone helped themselves to my daughters bike.
Had it down the side of garage. :(

Thanks guys!  We also thought they'd be a pain to carry (our son's doesn't fit on the bike carrier we bought!), but didn't want to get there and they were the only ones without bikes!!  Much easier not to take them!  :D

After taking bikes on a 4 month tour we found that we did not use them that much and walked most places.

I am seriously considering just buying one of those fold up scooters for next time in case town is a bit of a hike.

We also found the Ooodnadatta destroyed one head tube with the constant vibrations due to the corrugations

If they must, try a scooter.
