USA Yamaha generator
« on: May 08, 2012, 10:50:06 PM »
Is there a way around this in regards to convert to AUS power, is it a easy as a AUS to US adaptor?
It is just so friggin cheap, more than half of what you would pay here!

Not as easy as a plug adaptor. The USA runs on 110VAC at 60 Hz. So wrong voltage and frequency for electrical gear here.
You can get a 110v to 240v transformer to step up the voltage but it would be a heavy  PITA.

110v and 60 cycles.

Unless your gear can run from 100-240v, 50 or 60 cycles, no good mate.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

Replied same time...

Yep, 110v to 240v transformer, something like an 'atlas power converter' would be cheaper to just buy the genset here.

solution,,,,,,,, if you don't own a heap of 240v camping gear,(is there such a thing) just buy all your gear from the US,
 it'll be cheaper,
you'll make the honour roll in the "flamed for buying from overseas" thread
none of your mates can sneakily plug their gear into your setup
and, you'll be a one of a kind, that's gotta count for

Also,
Wont have to worry about chaining up the genset, just make sure you print off and laminate a paper card with

'110v only'    on it.

be safe as houses,................   probably.

I guess you can tell I'm not electrical savvy! Although I did look at trasnsformers before asking...

Might just stick to reading posts before I get "honoured" :'(
