GPS Trackers
« on: August 04, 2017, 09:06:38 AM »
I know this topic has been done to death, but most of the posts I came across only mentioned the one that a forum member is/was selling (and that post everyone was linking to seems to have disappeared - no longer on the forum? No longer selling them? I don't know...) or the Youtrac system, or outdated/no-longer-available options.

I'm just looking into alternatives at this stage - something cheaper than the Youtrac system, something 3G (yes, I know the disadvantages of using something that uses mobile phone coverage, but I'm not going to consider something satellite based anyway), and something that is a dedicated GPS tracker and that can be hardwired (I've heard the "stow an old iPhone somewhere idea before too). Geofencing would be a bonus but isn't essential. Same deal for weather-sealed/water-proof - I can get around that if necessary for the application I'm considering it for.

I did come across a unit that Jaycar is selling. Anyone got experience with it? Any others people have tried and found good/reliable? More interested in first-hand experience and recommendations (or if you know a mate who has something that they rate), not just what people can find on Google. I can do a Google search, LOL.

Thanks guys. :)

The Black Knight system might be of interest. 3G. I believe some insurance companies are offering a discount if you have one of these fitted.

Give Shane a ring and have a chat, he does get busy but will find time to answer any questions you have without any of the sales pitch bs. Pretty sure he still does a good deal for Myswaggers. GG probably give you Shanes number but if he didnt i can PM it to you. No affilliation just a happy customer

Mike,

I agree with what macca and others have said.

There are plenty on here that have trackers from Shane.
I don't know of any that aren't 100% happy with Shane's product, service and support.

He's busy alright, we speak about once a week and there's never a dull moment at the shop.

Sometimes at home too....... but he'll have to tell you about that one.      there's your hint.

Have been looking and just found this company, Melbourne based.
findandfollow.com.au
You can buy outright and supply your own sim and follow via SMS or via there free web page via the gps.  Was thinking a $15 Aldi pre paid SIM card would suit. ( lasts for 365 days)
Or you can buy the whole package with sim included.
Can't find anyone who's tried or using it ATM but looks reasonably priced.
You can set up geo fence etc, keep log via website of kms travelled location, send to family etc.
Let us know what you think
Cheers
Steve
