Reversing Cameras
« on: September 20, 2011, 12:51:00 PM »
Does anyone out there have a reversing camera on a 120 series Prado?  If so, where do you have the camera mounted?

Thanks in advance

Whilst I dont have a 120 series on swmbo's 95 series I would mount the camera under the spare tyre, on a bracket, As close to centre as possible. On my patrol I had it over the number plate on the left rear door and it was a pain.

You can get one which replaces one of the rear number plate globes - it's a globe and camera in one and is a straight swap with 2 screws. Search Prado reversing camera on Fleabay and you'll find them. My 90 has one but I've seen them to fit 120's. Just check it's for RHD car so it's angled to centre and not gutter!

The factory camera is a rebadged Eclipse, you can buy it as a spare from Toyota but at $350 probably not the cheapest option.

The '08 & '09 120s were pre-wired for this camera from the factory.

I've got an elcheapo camera on my 120, came with the elcheapo satnav unit I bought. I mounted mine between the #plate lights and works just fine for lining up the trailer. Could be a little closer to central, so one that replaces the inside light would prob be better, but I've gotten used to it.
