Who leaves their soft floor annex roof on when packing up?
« on: March 17, 2013, 11:01:17 AM »
Hi,

We haven't had a soft floor for many years now and on our old one we could keep the annex roof attached but i wasn't sure if i should.

Well we have got rid of the jayco and gone soft (so to speak) and i am again wondering what to do with the roof when packing.
Any suggestions?

I do. I fold it back over the main roof & pack it away as one unit.
Heap easier than taking it on & off.

We throw ours over the top and have some rope at each corner there ready to tie it down so the wind doesn't it pick it up.   We did buy a taller cover so it was easier to close up.

We don't have the extra roof  over the top like they make these days.  Mate has to fold his camper up and then throw the annex on top.

I undo the zip a bit to relieve pressure at the corner and then fold it back over

I took mine off and put my tarp over the whole lot. Tarp helps to keep the sleeping area cool and covers the kitchen more than the annex did. I use the spreader bars n poles from the annex for the tarp.

Yep just fold it back and have a couple of bits of rope to tie it down when windy. Old man does the same with his.
Also comes in handy when you dont want to put it up for over nighters. Just leave it tied, provided it was calm.

I have an austrack camper and I've left mine on since I brought it and just fold it back over the main tent then fold it up normally and never had any problems

Thanks all, I thought it wouldn't be a problem but just wanted to confirm.
It would be a bugger putting it off and on continually unless you were travelling and wanted no annex for quick overnighters.

Hey faulky, did your Austrack come with the annex roof already fitted to the main tent? I'm just unpacking my new one to make sure everything is there and can't see the annex roof separate (I can't fold the whole thing out yet as its not on the trailer)

When we had the Track-About we put the awning on once and was still their when we handed it over to the new owners.

Used the rope on each corner too! Tied it down instead of setting it up for overnight stops.
Cheers,

Tom.

Out of interest, our (a Sar Major) has the annex perminantly sewn to the tent so it can't be removed.

We pack up ours separately......

Its a bit like intermission at the fights.
We find it gives both of us a chance to get our breath back and think up some new names to call each other.

Once the annex is stowed away, ding ding..... round two.....

I don't know why, but whilst packing up i get in the sh!t deeper than a gay blokes #*^& does.

How does leaving the annex on go if you have a tropical roof?

I put the new camper up today in the drive way to check out all the bits are there (two extra spreader bars!!) and put the tropical roof on and the annex up.

Packing up i dropped the two outside arches on the tropical roof so it laid flat and then pulled the roof over.
Worked well but i will put some ropes on the corner as well. We just have the standard width trailer so it wasnt too bad.

Thanks all for the replies

I left mine on; it justice setup and pack up that much easier. So often I've talked to folks who have no awning setup because "we couldn't be bothered putting the bl^^€dy thing on" whereas I just pulled out three poles and five ropes and pegs and it was done.

We leave ours o - just makes it soooooo much easier.
We are also toying with the idea of leaving the annex end walls on. Just unzip them from the side, leave them velocro'd at the top and then flip them on the annex and the follow normal pack up from there.

Not sure if there will be the room to do it but we'll give it a burl

Nick I was thinking the same with my GIC but then thought everytime u setup the awning overnight u gotta either do the annex or nothing at all. For me I thought a little cumbersome.

Ours comes off.  It is very easy to take off and as we have a tropical roof I'm not sure how it would go staying on.
(It's not so easy to put on though!!)

We leave ours on, just fold it back over the roof. We only put the annex up if we are staying 2+ nights (and then sometimes only 3+ nights, depending on what we are doing during the day). I keep a couple of occy straps to hold the corners down if we don't put the annex up.
