Trying to sell a camper trailer
« on: July 15, 2024, 04:04:23 PM »
Hi - I have been trying to sell my Aussie made mountain trail escalade 2017 soft floor camper for awhile now.   $23500 for sale ono. In great nick but really struggling to sell it.   Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with selling a camper trailer lately and if so, how and where.    Thanks in advance.

Depends on your price a lot, there are 10 on caravancampingsales with top price of about $31000.
$57000 is 1 heluva lot for a soft floor camper, no matter how good
spending the kids inheritance as fast as I can

Lot of people are doing it hard, add to that - its winter and fkin freezing and wet, not conducive to layin down large coin.

Where are you advertising it? Post up a link to your current ad. (23k in rose bay?)

If it was me, Id take down the ad and wait a few weeks then go with a new ad and new set of photos - I sold mine in no time on caravancamoingsales website

Give it a good wash, polish and detail....
Also don't go with phone photos that people cant see details, get some good photos in a good camping area so people can imagine what it looks like with them kicking back- and Shit loads of them.. Inside, out under setup, folded up.Give lots of specs and info.

Put a new ad up on the forum here, ya ever know who may have a friend/family member lookin for a trailer.

good luck with it.

As above, the market/environment for camper trailers (vans to some extent too) is not the best at the moment. Lots of brands have given away the soft floor camper models due to a shift in demand for hybrids/vans. I agree with Bird, try advertising again at the start of spring with good pics at a realistic price and it should sell.

We sold our camper just before Christmas last year through caravancampingsales. It was on for at least a month (possibly two) without a bite, and then we had several people contact us within a week. Fortunately one of them purchased it.

I think Bird's recommendations are spot on. Great photos get people excited, especially if the trailer is in great condition as you say. As a purchaser, the thought of buying a full canvas trailer in this weather, then taking it home to open it up and pack it, would fill me full of dread. As a seller, just imagine if a tyre kicker turns up, you open up the camper to show them, it rains, they don't want it or you don't want to sell it for half price, then how do you get it dry to pack it up. I would take the ad down too, and wait until the sun starts to shine, hopefully early spring when the camping bug starts to bite.

Check your price against others for sale to see if you are fair in your pricing, but remember that advertisers are asking what they want to get, quite often not what is realistic.

Good luck selling, I do know the pain of waiting.

Ive sold two vehicles over the past few years by just parking them out the front of home. We are on a pretty well used road tho. Might be worth a try.

Mate, with all due respect, as others said these are hard times and it is a soft floor camper - no matter what bells and whistles it has. Nobody I know would pay that much money for any soft floor camper. And I know a lot of people who are in 4wding, camping or touring (thats pretty much my second life).
Really wish you luck with the sale.

I wouldn't pay that much for a hard or forward fold camper, better value in a van of some type.

Not then and not now, at least my extended circle.
Most I paid for brand new trailer was $21k for Cub camper back in 2016. I bought some others before and after for less than 15k. Then built square teardrop for less than 10k etc.
Most I paid for hybrid camper was about $36k for MDC XT12db, back in 2018.
Most I paid for poptop caravan was $38 for fully decked out (diesel heater, aircon, hot water etc) brand new Jayco penguin outback at the tail end of covid prices. Took it to Cape York and back and sold it for $36k. So not complaining about that one lol.
