Title: Just sharing an experience
Post by: briann532 on July 15, 2019, 07:33:32 PM
Hi guys.

I invited a builder I do some work with and have know for years, to come down to my property for the weekend.
A bit of shooting, camping and boys time out.

I've known him for years and we have a good work ethic and relationship so it was never going to be a problem.
He rang me a few days before and asked if he could bring an apprentice with him.
Sure no probs. Someone to put shyte on and have bit of fun.
I'm used to dealing with apprentices and young blokes so it wouldn't be an issue.

I picked them both up as there was no sense taking two cars and we headed off.
kid seemed polite and friendly enough so I was looking forward to good weekend.
Dinner at the pub and introduced them both to a few mates down there and we had a good time.
Apprentice then shook their hands when leaving and said it was nice to meet them.
On the way in he jumped out and got the gates. (3 of them, which I get sick of opening and closing, but I can't afford remotes for them so!!!!)
He then got the fire going and grabbed us all a beer before pitching his swag.

Had a bit of a late night spotlight and decided to name him "warning shot"
Next morning I put the kettle on and he starts cooking up the bacon and eggs.
Washed up when done and dried and put it all away. I told him to just leave it and he said no.
Showed him how to do a lamb roast and veggies in the camp oven and he waited on every word. ( I think he's off to buy a camp oven as we speak!)
He then washed up again. Later in the night he slowed down on the beers, claiming he'd had enough and didn't want to act like a moron and get drunk.
Did a bit more riding and shooting and had a great weekend.
On the way home he kept trying to pay for fuel for the bikes and cars etc and offering me money for staying.
I refused, but was grateful for his offer.
He then asked if he could come back to my place and wash the car for me.
Nah mate, it stays dirty, it'll just get muddy again next weekend.

I then receive a phone call today from his parents thanking me for taking care of him and hoping he was respectful.
Shit mate, if my daughter was old enough, I'd be booking the church and chaplain.
I then get a call from my neighbour who we visited, telling me to invite him back and he's welcome to shoot, ride and stay at their place anytime.
What a top bloke. Everyone talks of the young dumb and full of, but honestly this kid was amazing.

I almost stopped being a grumpy old bastard for the day. ;D

Restored my faith in the young ones.

Thanks for letting me share my story,
Brian

Great story Brian, there are some good ones around just hard to find.
Now can you send me his details as I have 2 daughters that he can choose from, no Dowry required.

Wow. What a good story. Your mate sure struck gold with his apprentice. He should clone him.

Obviously from a good respectful family.

We are all just a product of our environment.
If they are raised to be lazy, disrespectful and arrogant, they will be.
The old saying if you lay down with dogs you get flea's is so true.

Quite the opposite to the family I saw in the Bunnings car park yesterday. A guy was talking to who I thought was his wife, dropping the f-bomb every second word. Her words were just as bad with more emphasis on the f-words. I thought it sounded like an odd voice coming from a grown woman, that’s when I realised it was actually her <10yr old son....

You need a permit to have a dog, but nothing to raise a kid???
