Trackabout Dakar must have options
« on: June 04, 2014, 05:34:53 PM »
Hi Swaggers,

I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Matt and I've been lurking here for a while, taking advantage of the vast knowledge available on this great forum.

The reason for my post is that I'm just about to put down a deposit on a Trackabout Dakar CT for my family (me, the missus and two little girls aged 9 and 7). I was wondering what options current owners of Trackabout CT's feel have been useful or not so. We will be looking to free camp for a week of two at a time as well as some short holiday park stays.

Any help or advise is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt, Welcome! Where do u live in this great country?

My understanding at looking at all the features you won't need anything!!

Maybe a 80 - 120 watt solar panel (Jetcrew can sort you out with one of those) to keep the batteries charged for those long stays. 240v for the stays at a caravan park.

Just my thoughts!
Cheers

Hey Matt, welcome.

We added a third battery box onto our Safari for extended bush camping, so worth asking Dave/Julian about that.
I have another Deep Cycle Battery in my boat that I put into the third box just for extended trips.

We also added the Hot Water Service for swmbo and resale value, and have to admit it was worth the extra $$$'s in terms of happy wife and even I like not having to heat up pots of water for showers.  We tend to only turn it on when needed and boil the kettle to wash up as there is only 2 of us now.

Here's a pic of the pole box with the third cradle sitting on the side of the guard prior to powdercoating and a not so good pic of the 3 behind the toolbox. Wouldn't even know it's there.

When I bought our trackabout I wasn't sure what options I would want so I had them do the metal work for things I would probably want. I had them ad an extra battery tray boat rack brackets extra water tank brackets etc. I also got a longer drawbar so I could have a bike rack and still open the back door of the wagon.

Good idea re the metal work. I can always add things later.

Hey Matt,
Not sure if you've seen this thread? Might be of some help.

We also had the prep work done for the front awning if we want to add it later.

we've got one of the $50 spring up ensuite tents that we use for overnighter/weekends, and a larger $200 metal frame unit that we use for weeklong etc.
Pics not great, but might give you the idea.
