Post by: Black Diamond on March 06, 2019, 08:20:35 PM
Half the Vic High Country closed due to Fires this weekend as you would expect.
Certainly throws a spanner in the works for many and for obvious reasons but our safety is paramount.
Stay safe wherever your heading out

The reason i decided to stay home, pretty much everywhere was under fire risk and if it wasn't there would be 2 trillion people trying to squeeze into the available space.

We were up there over the weekend but over the western side of the high country around Tolmie on a private property it was a little smokey from the Jamison fire but other than that no real issues we did a couple of drives up to evens creek and tomahawk huts and only came across a few others. I was blown away by how busy Mansfield was even with the howqua hills road campground closures it was chaos although there was some big events on with the merijig rodeo and a big mtb event at Buller. We stayed away from the fire regions as that fire was still out of control.

We were at the Gippsland Lakes over the weekend,  very smokey there.
Came home via Maffra and Heyfield, to the right of us was fire at Briagalong, on the left the smoke from the Licola fires, and further west the Bunyip fires. Was quite sobering to see how much of the high country is burning at the moment.
Roads down that way were empty. On a long weekend they would usually be packed with campers heading home, so it was good to see people heading advice.
Also saw a convoy of NSW RFS trucks on Eastlink heading east on Saturday. Thanks for the help fellas
