'for allegedly misleading consumers about ‘was/now’ price comparisons advertised on its website.'
What a shock... This "trick" has been happening since jesus played fullback for Jerusalem .. is anyone surprised? If only they got onto every business that did it.

Decades ago a relative of mine was bit of a pioneer in Perth in selling treated pine lattice as a garden screen product.
Did quite well at it too and along came competitors. Including one called Half-price Lattice. Selling an inferior product at a cheaper price. But was it "half"?
As my relative said "What's half price?"
His complaints to various regulators fell on deaf ears.
"Half price" businesses are common now.
Often means half quality.

agree.. most of ebay is like that.

Supercrap and bcf are another two lieing bastards that inflate prices. Even on special you will buy them cheaper elsewhere..

And what about the rug shops and the never ending closing down sales with "up to 100 per cent off" or near to it.
We had one guy Perth whose ads were on high rotation on TV. I'd wager he had to pay cash in advance when booking the ads.

Yep the old "reduced to its normal retail price trick"

I tried to get them to supply their data to pricehipster.com.au which tracks prices a while back, unsurprisingly they haven't yet.

so don't buy from them? having higher prices than other stores is not illegal. their special price might still be higher than others, and while it's not ideal business sense, it's not a crime.
supercheap actually have a program where if you buy a product and it then goes on sale within a set period of time, they will automatically credit you the difference to be used later on. i've benefited from this a few times now, to my surprise...

here in mackay, we don't have that many options... :'(
by the time postage comes in the play, it's not worth it for a lot of stuff...
the local camping shop here in mackay has higher prices, but i support them, because they are truly local...
and we are lucky to have a 4wd superstore shopfront here, so i don't have to worry about getting spammed... ;D

Cairns is similar. However I do a hell of a lot internet purchases. Even though australia post is a bloody joke...it still works out a lot cheaper. I did my years of being screwed over with high prices and high postage costs after doing very many years in remote areas. The Australian consumer is more often than not treated as a mug!!!

Or...Half Price (off RRP, not their normal sales price).......
-
Most Chain type stores do it.
I took my daughter clothes shopping just before Christmas (That's another issue that I'll need to put in the rant thread!!!)
She wanted a few things, but decided to wait for the "sales" to buy them.
I took photos of what she wanted so I could go back later if I had to. Heaven forbid Dad bought the wrong thing :-[
Anyway slaes hit and lo and behold everything was 50% off. Even had the ticket with the "old" price slashed by 50%.
Funny cos the photos I had showed them at half the price originally.
So I am dumb (obviously) but it seems to me that you double the original price, put it on sale at 50% and every women is cheering at how much money they "Saved"!!!
Awesome.....
??? ??? ???
Daughter couldn't help herself and goes to sales girl and shows the photos. Apparently the ones I took were last years prices, not the new years prices.
Oh of course that makes sense.
She took offence to me asking how stupid she thought I was and then leaving.
