Hey Mate

Just read your blog.  Tough times - chin up.
On a serious note, as a fellow cyclist: was the bike ok?

The bike shop legal answer is: Although on visual inspection the bike seems ok, after such an accident we cannot guarantee the structural integrity of the carbon frame nor wheels.

I have now reached the $10,000 mark in fundraising, and am well on my way to reaching my $25,000 target, so a MASSIVE THANK YOU for all those that have donated so far.

For those that haven't, could you spare a small $10 donation for this great cause?  100% of donations go directly to the Cancer Council for research into finding cures for cancer.

I have also just done the latest entry to my blog (2016 Race Routes Released) and you can read it here: www.jc2016bct.blogspot.com.au

To skip the blog and go straight to the donation page: https://secure.cancercouncilfundraising.org.au/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx?registrationID=880491&langPref=en-CA#&panel1-1

Thankyou!!

Yeah I was listening to that in the car...must of had something on my eyes due to them becoming 'watery'  ;D

Yeh, been a few "watery" moments in the respective families, but not so much for what they have ( and continue ) to go thru, but their bond and fighting spirit as only a close knit family could possibly understand.

This has gone off topic slightly, but awareness is the only way to address cancer, so the more coverage and discussion on the subject, the better I think ! :cup:

Hi All,

A bit of an update:

My fundraising tally is slowly rising, now having reached just over the $17,000 mark!  Many of you on this forum have donated so I can't thank you enough!!  I am still hoping to achieve the $25,000 mark so hopefully a few more of you can spare a few dollars and make a tax deductible donation towards funding research into finding cures for cancer.

I have also updated my blog for those of you that are reading it - the latest topic is called 'The Long Road to Recovery' giving an update on my accident injuries and my progression back to riding back out on the road again.

For those that would like to make a donation please visit this link: https://secure.cancercouncilfundraising.org.au/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx?registrationID=880491&Referrer=http%3a%2f%2fwww.beatcancertour.com.au%2f#&panel1-3

A MASSIVE THANK YOU to all the participants of the 2016 MySwag Flinders Ranges Trip!!

Not only did they all chip intogether to make a huge donation to my fundraising effort, but they were all willing to donate their 10c recyclables throughout the trip which added another $60 to the total.

Furthermore I have had some more donations from other MySwag Members - so I am extremely gratuful to all those that have donated so far.

My tally is now $19,500 and can feel that I am so close to reaching my $25,000 goal!!

If any others are thinking about donating, here are a few reasons to help persuade you:

1) It is a 100% tax deduction
2) For every $1 donated by you (all of which is invested in the Cancer Council's Beat Cancer Project), $4 of research can be undertaken!!
This is due to donations such as yours being dollar matched with grants from the government and contributions from Adelaide's leading Universities.
3) As a result of donations, over 90 research projects are currently being funded.
4) Breakthroughs in one area of cancer research can often benefit other areas of cancer research. With the research that is being done, Cancer Council can minimise the impact of all cancers.
5) You can win an entry to sit in the Beat Cancer Team Car for a day in the 'Like Us, Support Us, Join Us' competition: https://www.beatcancertour.com.au/competitions-2/
6) It will give you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside and make this MySwag member very grateful!

Another month down and another month closer to the beginning of the 2016 Beat Cancer Tour!!

On this day in only 11 weeks time it will be Stage 1 of the Tour Down Under - 130.8km from Prospect to Lyndoch!

I have had another little setback with another crash on Saturday - luckily no broken bones this time, just grazes, bruises, and down $800 - you can read about it in my latest blog entry!

My October fundraising was really good and I have now raised a total of $22,600 - I now feel like I am actually going to make my $25,000 fundraising target, but will only do so wil the help and support of people such as yourselves so please please please give a little if you have the means to do so - it would be really appreciated!

You can read my latest blog entry here: www.jc2016bct.blogspot.com

As part of my fundraising effort I have been donated two brand new handmade children's quilts.

One is in a Scooby Doo pattern and the other in a Winnie the Pooh pattern, with the reverse side being a patchwork pattern.

I have posted them in the Trader section and you can read about them here: http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=45820.0

I have just done the latest entry to my blog - The New Bike...

www.jc2016bct.blogspot.com.au

In other news, it is just over 6 weeks until donations close and I have just reached the $25,000 mark.  I'm still aiming to reach $30,000 - a tall ask to raise $5,000 in 6 weeks but I have the motivation as it is all going to such a great cause.

When I have been out asking for donations I have met some wonderful people, some that have beat cancer, some that are going through it at the moment and are undergoing treatment, and some that have unfortunately lost family members.  It certainly puts life into perspective, and makes me grateful for what I have, and what I am doing.

If you can spare a few dollars, a donation towards helping to beat cancer would be greatly appreciated: https://secure.cancercouncilfundraising.org.au/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx?registrationID=880491&langPref=en-CA#&panel1-1

Re: 2016 Beat Cancer Tour - Donations Close Fri 15th January!!
« Reply #48 on: January 06, 2016, 10:30:34 AM »
This is going to be my last post in the lead up to the Beat Cancer Tour which is now only 10 days away!!!

Since my accident on the 30th May, things have gone very well for me in terms of my riding and fundraising.

As far as the riding goes, I am currently out on the bike 4-6 times a week doing anything from 350-520kms a week.  This is my last week of training before having a week to taper before the week of the Tour Down Under.  I am climbing faster than I ever have before, and am feeling really good going into the 900km week.

As far as the fundraising goes, I have been overwhelmed with the generosity of people!!  So far I have raised $28,361, all of which goes directly towards cancer research.  I am now very close to reaching my target of $30,000 - just $1,639 to go!!

So this is my last beg and grovel to you - if you can spare a few dollars, all of which is Charity Direct and fully tax deductible, it would be most appreciated.  All donations have to be in by the start of the Tour Down Under so the closing day is Friday 15th January.

For those that are reading it, I have made the latest entry to my blog here: www.jc2016bct.blogspot.com.au

For those that are happy to make a donation you can do so here: https://secure.cancercouncilfundraising.org.au/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx?registrationID=880491&Referrer=http%3a%2f%2fwww.beatcancertour.com.au%2f#&panel1-2
