Evening all ….is there a protocol to follow when flushing a water tank?...any cleanser "better" than another?...
We're taking the old girl out for a last run before upgrading, and I want/need to flush the water tank before going...she's been in the shed for a while, and the temperature in there can get up a bit ...safety first!

A cup of bleach and a drive around works for me.

I used to use sodium meta bisulphate to clean old beer bottles, good cleaner and sterilant. Available at home brew shops, used as a food grade cleaner. Do not inhale if you are asthmatic.
Similar to the stuff mums clean baby bottles with, Nilstat or Milton
Mix and add to tank, go for a drive, flush tank, should be all good.

My present camper is 6 yrs old and have never flushed the water tanks....only ever refilled them.......so I'm no use to the discussion !! ;D ;D

If you've always used Mains Chlorinated water in the tank, you shouldn't have any probs.
Milton will require a second flush out too.
-
Bicarbonate of soda another option - mix a few tablespoons in a jug, pour into a 1/3 full tank, drive around for 10 minutes, drain and flush.
-
Couple of scoops of Sodium Bicarbonate,
fill the tank,
shake well on a dirt track or Parramatta Road
Come home and empty tank
Fill and empty once more for luck
Job done

I never worry to much about flushing the tank, I only ever use the water in the tank for washing up showers etc.. All our dinking and cooking water comes from bottled water or a 20ltr water container..
