Title: Camping Zones Main Beach Straddie.
Post by: tryagain on June 21, 2020, 12:02:27 AM
Currently booked in for Teewah for the first week of the school holidays but thinking about changing to Straddie main beach, Their FB page says 5 7 10 14 15 are the best zones for trailer access. 7 is booked out so that rules that one out, anyone got any insight on the rest or is it just a case of just picking one and knowing you can't go too far wrong?

yeah between 7 an 8 is where I usually camp, rign in the middle there is an awesome space right on the dunes under the cover of trees (up 7, chuck a left, drive a fre hundred meters). Last time I was there 8 was a struggle without a trailer. pity you are giong during school hols, everytime Ive been there the place has just about been empty (outside of school hols)

At the moment I would take the track reports with an grain of salt.
The current reports are done by the rangers  who don't own the vehicle and were down there a week ago.
Before the FLU the track conditions were mostly provided by the daytour operators who were down the beach every day.
But.. There will be so many people around I reckon there will be a couple of snatch offers before you get out of the bogged vehicle.
Go for it. Great place.
We usually camp around 13 and 14.
Rod.

Thanks, booked in for a week at zone 5 today, messaged them on FB and they said that it's currently capped at 75% of normal capacity so hopefully won't be too packed, from memory I have read that the normal cap isn't too bad anyway. Now just to get everything ready.

Agree with Rods comment about taking the track report with a grain of salt as in the past they have been way off. We use to camp on Straddie 3 times per year normally between 5-7 as there were some fantastic spots.

Haven’t been for a few years as they changed the rangers as they said the previous ones were too soft (They were really nice guys why where reasonable and they also made sure the track between camps were accessible by removing tress which had fallen over)

Current rangers now wear body camera and are over the top fining people left right and centre and kicking people off the island over minor offences. I nearly got fined for having my axe on the ground near the fire as he said it’s an unsecured weapon. The people camping next to us got kicked off for allowing there dog to swim in the ocean off the lead.

But agree they have capped numbers dramatically over the past couple of years which is a good thing, so reducing even further is even better for you.

Seems a bit too heavy handed, but it's a fine line isn't it, get some ferals who decide to set up almost on-top of you who are littering, trying to cut new tracks, drunk loud and obnoxious to the wee hours of the morning etc and you wish there were some heavy handed rangers around. We went over 2yrs ago and saw the rangers drive past often (much more than say Teewah) but the the only interaction was a wave on their way past.
