if you are willing to take a punt, try ebay...

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Windows-10-Pro-Professional-Activation-Key-32-64bit-Genuine-Lifetime-Activation/163389939445?hash=item260acc9ef5:g:uhQAAOSw175b9qob

i have done this on more than one occasion and have never had one fail...

your mileage may vary greatly...

i think what loanrangie means is that you could buy a second-hand govt PC off ebay, for example, which comes with a license...

As sparksy said,

If you can track down a genuine windows 7 or 8 disk, you can download and install windows 10 for free, all you need is the licence number, even an old dead system with the windows sticker on it will do (must be 7 or later)

Technically you aren't supposed to use an OEM license as is restricted to the original computer, but I have seen plenty of them used without any issues, Microsoft doesn't seem to care as long as the computer is not being used commercially.

At one stage there was upgrade disk from win 7 to win 8 that were sold at Hardly Normal for $50, they worked OK as well

the link to the windows media creation tool and windows 10 download

https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10

the media tool allows you to install on the computer you are using (as long as you have a win 7 or 8 license number) or create an ISO file to keep for further installation or create a USB or DVD installation media / disk same as a purchased windows install package

Govco PC will have a corporate licence, and only valid for their employees to use at home if they do a certain amount of work from home.

As far as I am aware (have some corporate IT experience to fall back on, as you might also), once the PC is sold, the corporate part of the license is no longer attached to the company.  That’s why they are able to sell them on eBay...

I think that they sometimes put a new install of windows on there... not sure if it is a refresh of the existing license or a new one.

I’ve bought multiple machines like this with no issues upgrading to Windows 10 or using the code...

But your mileage may vary.  Either way, a cheap option if you can get one for the right price...

It looks lie it may be different for Win10, my experience was with Win7 corporate licensing, and the government machines didn't have a licence attached to them, it was the number of users. So if you stripped down a machine, there were no licence stickers on them.

If you had the requirement to use Windows at home, you had to fill in a form, state the reason you required the OS on your home computer (usually just training I think it was) then you were given a CD, with the key on it. But when you left that department, you had to fill out another form to say you had removed the OS from your computer.

You can install Windows 10 using the official Microsoft download/tool without ever paying for a license, just click Skip when it asks for the product key.

The only difference is that an unactivated copy doesn't let you set backgrounds and make a few other visual tweaks, and it displays a watermark on the desktop that it's not activated. It also doesn't sync stuff like Outlook between PCs. Other than that you still get full functionality, updates etc.

Watermark is only in the bottom right hand corner... won’t affect your lifestyle in any way...
