Heres a strange one for you..
Thinking of 2 weeks in Tassie at around easter... No probs - looking at all options

So do the online quote thing...
Commodore with no roofrack, no trailer - both ways easy any day I like day/night march/April.
Commodore with Roofrack, no trailer again - getting there, easy.. getting home - no vacancies for 4 weeks ???

Take patrol with no roofrack no trailer - both ways easy any day I like day/night March/April...
Take patrol with roofrack and no trailer - getting there easy - getting home no vacancies for 6 weeks...

WTF?

Why does the roofrack make so much difference??? A commodore with a rack isn't as high as a bog stock off showroom floor Patrol on flat tyres, so it cant be height...

Anyone ? I'm ****in lost.

Anyone got any clear thoughts on this one?

Because you never know what someone might put on their roof racks?

Hi,
I think 2.1m height means you won't fit up in the racks and have to go in the main deck with the trucks, motohomes and caravans.
Cheers

Fair enough, but why would that stop

"Commodore with Roofrack, no trailer again - getting there, easy.. getting home - no vacancies for 4 weeks" ???

I've never seen a DunnyDoor at 2.1m's, even with a roofrack ???

I'm lost why a commodore with roofrack has no vacancy for weeks when a stock patrol does.
it cant be height - to me its 'Tasmanian' logic ... runs along the lines of woman logic. :D

As was mentioned earlier it is about the space on the deck and there is more money to be made in freight than passengers.
Perhaps call and just double check as I have done that before and got on earlier.

wouldn't both cars take up the same amount of space on the deck?

Hi,
No idea. But with no camper or roof rack, I got put way down in the bilges near the pointy end. Interesting exercise with a new 130 cab chassis. (5 point turns any one?)
With the camper on the back, we can go as a Defender ute with a load, or as a 5.5m motor home. Same cost and get put in with the trucks and other tall vehicles.
Cheers

Hi,
Yep, but the freight deck is many times taller than the other decks.

Another thing affecting prices is a Commonwealth freight subsidy and a tourist subsidy/loading by season.

Anyone got any clear thoughts on this one?
Because, MONEY!!!!

And because they can... ;D

The same reason that it is physically impossible to get a car and trailer on that boat at their lowest rate.

We took our Suzuki Jimny (almost the smallest car on the market) towing my tiny little custom made camping trailer (well under 3m total length) and we where 100mm too long for the lowest rate.
Instead of $110 each way, that 100mm bumped the rate up by 300%....

So the way to calculate answer to your question is;
Greed + No competition = Consumer gets shafted.

that's all I can put it down to..  I thought there may have been a logical explanation..
I thought i'd be 'renting' 1x car size space - put on it what you ****in like.

I probably know the answer, but I have to ask.
How is it that we export A grade coal, to places like Japan, they are happy to buy it, they have low emissions from this high quality coal,
BUT we are decommissioning our coal fired power stations, power costs to homes and business is rising faster then sea levels  ??? that are suppose to be from global warming  ???
We're being bent over for what?  >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D

Less to do with emissions and more to do with cost.

They are privately owned. If it was viable they wouldn't close.

So when swaggers are out 4 w driving do you wear  gloves while driving the track? I don't.

I ask as watching Your 4x4 on Aurora/ Fox  tonight I see the host Simon Christie wearing gloves ( the type where the finger tips are open) it wasn't because it was cold as he had his tight muscle shirt on.
I though it was odd or maybe because he is.
