PC Equality
« on: February 08, 2019, 01:26:24 PM »
Following on from some of the posts in the Rants about PC Equality.

Was sitting down with the bride the other day and talking about things as we occasionally do and the subject from one of those news media talk shows was about gender equality and now there is a push for 'Women Vote'

https://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/pm/women-vote-lobby-group-scrutinise-policies-lead-up-fed-election/10791374

Now we have nothing against anybody doing or trying anything if that is what they want to do.  What we don't believe in is a quota to achieve 'equality'.
Having been in a large Government organisation which for some time has been using an unofficial quota to equalise things, I have repeatedly seen the downside of a quota system and it only strengthens my faith in the best person for the job, regardless of gender, race, religion or other division.  Not the most meritorious, as that system is as equally rorted as a quota system.

As our conversation continued on the subject of equality and following on from the great debacle last year, how long will it take for the LGBTQ to step up again and want there share of the quota system.  Which naturally just throws the quota into a head spin.

Bit like dealing cards, you know, one for you, one for me, one for you one me, hang one, one for him, one her, one for him/her, one for her/him ....and so on for the other 69 identified genders.  All vying for the same job the same pay etc.

And at the end of the day, those that would be terrific at that job unfortunately continue to be overlooked as their turn to join hasn't come up yet, while the job mill continues to pump out either incompetent and/or incapable 'workers' all for the sake of equality.

I guess one day, maybe not this millennium, the pendulum may swing back to people just being people, not a gender, race, religion or other division and things may settle back down again but in the meantime it could be an interesting time.
Cheers

I agree wholeheartedly, best qualified person for the job, not the person with the best appendages or lack of.
Before my retirement I was looking for a new rep, short listed down to eight for interviews, 6 blokes and two women. Employed one of the women, highly qualified, good personal skills, professional manner and I am pleased to say my faith in her has been justified, she is now in a management role in marketing for a major tool supplier nationally and globally.

If you are best suited for the position offered you should get the job.

That's the way it should be Pottsy, almost a Natural Selection, choosing the best person and potentially improving the field as you go.

Current way is another way of dumbing us down to the lowest or weakest link and everyone gets a medal for being the slowest.

I have worked with some great people and it massively improves performance all round.

Had the displeasure of others being at the workplace and stuff all achieved.

I agree 100%, there is the real risk and I have seen it personally that people are seen by their peers to have only got the job because of their Gender or skin colour etc.. This causes angst and breeds a terrible culture in the workplace. It should always be best person for the job regardless of anything..

Tokenism undermines the bloody great work done by those who are good enough to get it done. Full stop. I work in the construction industry with great people who are great at their job, many from various minorities and plenty of ladies - all of whom would have their pride and credibility hurt by mandated tokenism.

Thing I've noticed about these gender types, and some other minority groups, is that they all lobby to be treated equally - but they want special treatment because they're a minority.

I work for one of the big financial sector companies and it’s very obvious they have a quota when hiring and promoting

•   If you’re a middle age white male – below average chance of getting that job
•   Gay white male - above average chance
•   Gay Aboriginal male  - Jobs just about guaranteed
•   Married Female with school Kids - below average chance
•   Single white Female – above average chance
•   Aboriginal Female - Sure thing to get the job
•   Lesbian Aboriginal Female  - Jobs just about guaranteed
•   Transgender – no need to even go for the interview as it’s yours

In saying that, I've worked with at least one person in each of the above categories and most deserve the role as they do a fantastic job.  But then there are the ones who are just making up the numbers

Only if you refer to that one computer by it's own gender, do not gender profile or make assumptions about it's gender based on your own perceptions, bias or discrimination.  Each computer is allowed to be free to be who and/or what it identifies as and you have no rights to go against it's freedom.

Although it is lower than it has been in the last 10 years, it still exists. Well according to statistics it does.

They actually have a workplace gender equality agency? I guess they have to make the stats so they can continue to exist.

In my circumstance my wife earns significantly more then I do. Even with her going on maternity leave next month she will still earn more then me this year. In her role she had to negotiate her base wage plus everyone gets the same bonus if they meet their targets. Herself and her friend both out earn the guys in the office because they work hard, she gets angry because some of the blokes in her office bludge but they also don’t get remunerated as well because of their work ethic.

In my job, everyone is paid the same depending on rank, time in service etc but blokes and women get paid the same.

However a lot of females choose to go part time, have time off after kids etc so of course they aren’t going to get paid as much.
