Could be an idea too.

I haven't done it yet, but my local sparky said it would be about $400 to install the input & changeover switch, and a bit extra if any of the circuits need tweaking. For my place I'd want the HSTP & house water pump, + fridge, TV & and a couple of lights.

Mine cost about that.
The genny runs the lights, kitchen circuit, single GPO for the gas hot water starter, water pump and treatment plant only.
I put the caravan plug outside the meter box, so I don’t have a cable hanging out of the door.

Kev, this is the switch board for our house, with a dedicated gennie input.

mine was very similar to this... about $400 to install, IIRC...
