4wd series on Youtube
« on: July 05, 2018, 09:50:11 AM »
Since I helped to well and truly hijack Carlisle's thread (here - http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=54906.msg955272#msg955272) about his TV show (sorry)...

It was suggested that I start a new thread about 4wd & adventure YouTube series.

So here it is.

If you find a decent series worth watching, list it here. My personal preference is for videos that are 20 mins+... but pretty much anything that is interesting will hold my attention...

Ronny Dahl:
Ronny does some great stuff. He's Western Australian based and over the last few years has posted a massive volume of stuff. Some of his recent trips have been 9-10 episodes of around 30mins each with one at a time released weekly. His full video listing is here - https://www.youtube.com/user/RonBacardi666/videos

Ronny did a trip across the Anne Beadel recently (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KREaSl8m8M0&t=300s) and the big trip before that was the Kimberly (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1CUIY4_948&list=PLR6JepWZ7T69xCqtf2F3c-Q4XMXjBXAOG)

4xoverland:
(Andrew St Pierre White) used to be based in South Africa, now in Perth. He has a huge amount of older videos from Africa in general and recently did a run down the Canning in his heavily modified Troopy. (the entire build of that vehicle is online too) - his stuff can be found here -
 https://www.youtube.com/user/4xforum/videos

Gavin Gillett:
(another Western Australian) did a great Kimberly and a Canning trip. His stuff is here - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM3lzi1dvOFbmi9fiMqktsw/videos

Geko Expeditions:
is a good one too. Based in Europe they have some amazing Russian videos. No voice overs but great imagery - https://www.youtube.com/user/geko4x4com/videos

stream it to the big TV and relax...

Both Ronny and Andrew (4xoverland) do a heap of product reviews as well and they can sometimes be *very* brutally honest. (this is good thing).

some more from my long list...

4WD Action:
(don't judge me ok), if you can get past the constant ads for the parent companies products... the 4wding bits are actually quite good. their list is here - https://www.youtube.com/user/4wdaction/videos

4wd Touring Australia: (Carlisle's page):
plenty of good stuff and I believe he's going to load it up even more - https://www.youtube.com/user/auscampertrailer/videos

4wd Travel:
Australian based... some good stuff from the Cape - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVnZ0wspS7-NyZxhGG_QLgw/videos

All 4 Adventure:
well known for their TV shows and DVDs. The Youtube channel adds some outtakes and the like. No long vids... but plenty of added content if you like Simon and Jasons stuff. - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChgwjJa5ul8UX8OK8ajnnfA

Drifta:
a lot of very promotional vids' to sell their stuff. Some of it is interesting though and Luke comes across as very honest. - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkPwAvTq2CPsgKQF0ZntTFA

Expedition Australia:
if you've seen the DVD series then you know this one about a family ad their "Big Lap". Hint... don't be watching the one about his wedding ring catching on the roof rack if you're eating dinner) https://www.youtube.com/user/ExpeditionAustralia/videos

Expedition Overland:
US based... so much content... Alaska to South America and so much more. https://www.youtube.com/user/ExpeditionOverland/videos

Expedition Portal:
from the website. Lots of US content. https://www.youtube.com/user/ExpeditionPortal/videos

Great Off-Road Adventures:
an Australian based one from Western Australia. Some great content. https://www.youtube.com/user/MrRudolph2011/videos

Intents Offroad:
yep... another Western Australia one. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1Pw9gbXhykd0xXHKYyV83g

Lifestyle Overland:
a US page about a family that do overlanding trips. They recently sold up everything to hit the road full time. Interesting stuff. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJSHfhZHP8-iChAVCrXWTyA

Overland Bound:
US based... I find it's not interesting to me... but you may enjoy it. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTihSncHmHfrXjdsgPo2Ysg

Overland Way:
a young couple touring the world in a 4wd Mitsi' Delica. She is an Aussie and he's from Brazil. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVxHwTSkIgOiB6k8yQMilvw

Ruts Offroad:
yep... another Western Australian one... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9pL6QW2d8nWeAHZrpSdGfg

The Road Chose Me:
recommended to me by Rumdog... looks interesting. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkyky5zC8R1Gi6YeeCR6BDg

Top Of Down Under:
if you're a fan of Penny Wells TV show... every single episode is posted on her Youtube page here - https://www.youtube.com/user/DiscoverOzProduction/videos

Trailspin:
another US based one... some funny stuff. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOjvVW3RS3cagDiht5xcUgQ

Uncaged Expeditions:
Australian based. I've not had the time to watch any of them yet. But the teaser looked interesting. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtuEeLLXSlc6g3SoslI3QiA/videos

Your 4x4:
if you enjoy the TV show, then all their shows are here - https://www.youtube.com/user/Your4x4/videos

well... that's my list.

if you have any others... please add them.

They must have been different earlier on. My wife and I have been watching them lately after discovering them not long ago, and while I admit they always make sure to get a VMS shot in and they say "dominator" far more than they need to, I find their current content to be pretty low on product placement compared to some others.

And Graham loves his Dmax.

That said, I really enjoy this show. And when you consider it costs absolutely nothing to watch, with no actual ads, I think it is more than reasonable that they drop a few names. Unlike streaming shows off the likes of Tenplay where you get bombarded with the same ad again and again.

Thanks for this one, great cinematography and production, good mix of talk, experiences and scenic shots and venturing beyond our shores makes this one a winner.

Yeah, I don't mind their shows and don't find the product placement too obtrusive, I had always heard bad things about it so had a really low expectation, so have been pleasantly surprised when I have recently watched a few episodes.

Their one year timetable they have pushed out too two and a half, I am more than a little jealous. I also realised the other thing I liked about it, that is the lack of the typical Australiana type music that people doing travel video's in Australia so often seem to use.

I've watched nearly all of "Seek Adventure" on Youtube. Young bloke getting out and about and having a go.
Graham Cahill's "AuSolo" is good. Way better than his 4wd Action efforts.
One bloke I cannot stand is that whinging South African bloke. Only need to hear half a sentence from his mouth and I'm done.
Cheers, Mike.
2015 Mitsi Pajero. Dobbo MRR Lift, ARB Bar, MM4X4 Lock Up Mate, Intervolt DC Pro DBS, 12,000lb Mako winch. Bla Bla Bla.

96 80 Series. Lots of mods, not enough wheeling. - Gone but not forgotten.

I like the AuSolo as well. I imagine it would be time consuming to record.
