is it worth buying a used base model camper and speccing it up?
« on: December 11, 2013, 06:26:56 AM »
Sorry if this has been covered already but i was wondering if it is worth buying a base model camper and speccing it up with additional storage, electrics, water etc? is it a viable option or would it be more cost effective to just buy one completed? thanks for your time
If i own a swag, does that mean i have swagger?

It depends on the model in question.

If it is like Customline where the offer a bare bones camper trailer, then offer options, it does get a little pricey.

Cost me $4750 for my CT plus delivery, then about three grand to do a complete electrical install.
I reckon it was worth it.

I believe that that question has so many variables it's almost only can be answered by yourself!
do you have the  time/knowledge & tools to add your specs?

viable option vs fit for purpose vs your normal working rate??

FYI I specced up my middle of their range soft floor when I bought it in 08.  Some items due to it being a galv unit

hope you find your answer

cheers

I asked myself the same question myself when we bought our camper trailer. Luckily back then I was given a fixed price list of all extras. At first I thought some of the prices were a rip off, but after investigating the cost of parts required for that ‘extra’ it turned out to be reasonable prices as labour costs ended up being very minimal.  (Some jobs are just easier while the trailer is being built)

So based on this, I ended up ordering the majority of extra’s at time of order as it wasn’t worth my while doing it myself. Plus doing it this way, they included some of these ‘extra’ in for free when negotiating the deal.

thanks for the replies everyone, much appreciated. We are still looking at campers and my wife keeps seeing johnnos dreamtimes or the 4x4 delux for like 6 - 10K and with our budget of 25K wants to know if we would save money by speccing these up or just buying an evolution. personally, im still undecided on the make of camper we are going to purchase as there a lot of campers on the market and the decision gets harder the more i look.... just wondering if it would be worth the time/ money?
