Got to love Linseed oil, easy to apply and cheap.

no good for those of us in the tropics, it doesn't like the humidity and will be attract mould.

Interesting, I wondered why there was a 'with mould inhibitor' version.

Got to love Linseed oil, easy to apply and cheap. I use it on all the raw outdoor wood and it comes up really nice.

that's what i tend to use on my garden implement handles... works a treat...

Paraffin oil won’t mould, can mix your Paraffin oil with Beeswax by weight, 4 parts oil, 1 part beeswax. Wipe on, leave ten minutes wipe off, apply when necessary
Mineral oil, use neat, won’t mould, this is what they use on chopping boards etc as it’s food safe. Can take a while to dry so use sparingly.

Gave the old workbench a birthday. It was a Masonite top over kauri pine planks, very solid bench. I re screwed  all planks down and fastened 35mm Mdf to the top. Then used the other piece as a hinge out bench top for when I need that extra space. Not done yet but so far has worked out well .
Here for a good time, not a long time!

Interesting to hear you say that ???

Mrs has been using it for years, in a 50% mix with turps, on the handles of all her garden tools & loves it. I've used it on a few things as well & goes great, although you do have to re-do it every 12 months or so. ;D

Pacey uses it as well, & I reckon he gets more humidity up there than even we do down this end! :-\

i have used gum turps, mixed with raw linseed sometimes, but most of the time, just raw linseed...

if it's an old handle, that hasn't been treated in a long time, i sand back, and use the 50/50 gum turps and linseed mix, with the turps letting it sink right in, then a couple of coats of oil over the top, letting it really dry before adding another coat...

i try and hose off my garden tools after use and let them dry in the sun, before putting back in the shed...

i think sometimes as well, it depends on how old the linseed oil actually is... ?

Fair enough, If it works then all good.

I only commented from when I was looking into doing the outside stair treads when we built the house many moons ago, the builder advised against it as Linseed oil is a food based product (comes from Flax seed) and was a natural mould attractant. Boiled Linseed is supposed to be the better choice of the two. "Boiled" Linseed oil is essentially the raw product, with added solvents (much like Fizzies brew).

yea, i've never used it for stairs, decking, fencing, etc...  would expect there would be better products for that type of usage...

only for my garden tools and cricket bats...  ;D

Started making a door that is replacing the vinyl door section on my Starvision Galaxy PX1.

Looks good duggie. It's a very necessary mod and should be like that from factory!

I'd use 18mm marine ply, would be hard to hear her screaming through it but is heavier when you goto bury
