Anyone from W.A. or anywhere else had any experience with these .. Good / bad ..Not concerned about having a gauge as some other styles .

I've got one, I've also got a set of Stauns. I've also bought them as gifts for a couple of other people. Never had any issues, or heard of any issues.
The Ferret works exactly as advertised - undo the valve stem.. about 1lbs / sec deflate, screw the stem back in, and Bob's your uncle.
Pros : They're fast. Way way faster than the Stauns. Can't compare with any other.
Cons : 1. Some people don't like the fact that you're fiddling with the valve stem all the time, claiming you could damage it somewhere at the back of beyond and then you're stuck. Might be a valid excuse, might not be, in almost 5 years of using one I haven't had an issue yet.
2. It's fast.. if you're with a group, you're going to be waiting for the others anyway.
3. Your back doesn't get a rest - bend over, unscrew, count, screw, stand-up.. next tyre... at least with the Stauns you've got time to crack a coldie.

bought a set of six stauns in a leather pouch as we have a trailer to deflate as well - love them - we just screw them on when we hit the hard end of the tracks going onto the beaches and by the time we get to the soft stuff we're all good. just have to make sure theyre cleaned and adjusted every spring
-
Thanks gents
I did have a couple of stauns .. bought two from a bloke at work way back when they came out .. Buried in the garage somewhere now though .

Another vote for Stauns. Set them up for the pressure you want, then a dab of paint on the locking nuts so you can see if they have been moved. And remember to screw them on properly, or you'll deflate your tyres all the way down to flat. Mine are about 10 years old and work perfectly every time.
Except the time i didn't screw one on properly ;D

I know it's not on your list but I have gone the ARB tyre deflator. I like the idea of seeing what the actual pressure is. Had it several years now can't complain. I have a set of Stauns as well (received them with a magazine subscription years ago), but as I drop pressures to different settings for various terrains, I prefer the ARB deflator.
A mate has an ARB clone, cheaper and does the same job.

X2.......they would be just as fast as they do the exact same thing...plus have the gauge !
-
I've had Stauns but was the lucky one that always had trouble with them. Could never get them to deflate to the same pressure and if you didn't watch them closely one always stuck open flatting the tyre.
These days I'm a ARB EZ Deflator fan as well. Doubt it would be any slower than the Ferret as they both use the same method by unscrewing the valve out of the stem. But as already said it has a gauge so there is no guessing what pressures you have.
Plus I have proven it on many occasions that I'm quicker with the EZ Deflator than someone using Stauns or a stick.

Looks like the arb is going to be it ..

Ferrett's are the bomb. Had mine over 5 yrs..
I've had ARB, Stauns (which are now somewhere in the bush out the HCountry 300mtrs into the trees), and a stick off the ground.
Once you have used them 4-5 times, you get a feel for how fast air comes out 1/sec and you just count down.. piss easy.
The Ferret's are hand made, and awesome. Highly recommended.

ARB ones will do the same speed AND you can see exactly what pressure the tyre is !
Walk outside....shove your Ferret on the tyres ( I could say somewhere else !! ;D ) and count down.....then measure each tyre and tell us what pressure you get ??
I know it doesn't matter too much either way, but be interesting how accurate your counting is ??

usually within 3psi of each other.

have never checked how much the stauns vary, but then have never been in s sitch where it has mattered all that much. agree that the other methods are quicker but don't like the idea of taking the valves right out as have had enough issues with valves over the years to know to just leave them alone
-
Had a ferret for years, count one thousand two thousand etc for each lb, works for me. Never had an issue with valves etc, mates in the 4wd Club hate Stauns, would rather use a stick!
So ferret gets my vote for value and efficiency.
-
Had the ferret for 5 or so years. Same as the others have said, remarkably accurate when you count as Time said above. I haven't used any of the others, don't expect to.

I have both a ferret and ARB EZ deflator. They both work well. I would happily recommend either of them.

I wanted to buy the Ferret Deflatora few weeks back, this was the reply
My apologies, but I don't have any Ferret deflators at the moment.
I am taking an extended break from making these, so unfortunately cannot
supply you with one right now.
Kind regards,

Didnt end up with a Ferret either,I guess at the end of the day if the gauge on the ARB stuffs up or sh*tes me off enough I'll just unscrew the hose n gauge off it and use the brass body and do a count down to air down .

Can you really deflate 4 tyres (including the mucking about with the valve and the walking between tyres) with the ferret thing quicker than 4 stauns will do it?

and more accurate....
-
What do you let your three down for?
-
I rate stauns......screw on, stand up, grab a beer, have a chat to those having to stay kneeling down ducking around the valves.
I have at time driven to the campsite without removing the stauns........
Either way they will all let you down........
I don't really get the mines quicker (deflating or inflating) as if you are with a group than it always takes longer than the slowest system and I you are solo than time doesn't really matter.
-
I've had a ferret for many years, some knock off stauns and the ARB deflator. I started off with the Ferret, and eventually upgraded to the ARB; its the only way you can be 100% sure your tyres are at the correct pressures. Given how critical that is, I'll pay the extra and get an ARB one.
The stauns tend to vibrate and lose their pressures, and I don't always let the tyres down to the same pressure.
I'd rather be chatting to mates than counting the time tick down, but at the end of the day, the Ferret is a good quality product that works, and its locally made!

I hope this link works,
I thought it funny that this was in Unsealed 4x4 while this discussion is raging :cup:

Its a fairly broad range comparison too which is nice.

I've got both the Stauns and the ARB Ezi...... The Stauns get used the most on my Rig... If I'm deflating I'm usually going down the beach fishing so use the same pressure (15PSI) - Just screw them on, watch my mate flaff about doing his tyres, and before he's donee the stauns back off and im ready to go
If I'm going somewhere and using different pressures, thats when the ARB Ezi comes out.
