When will you guys heading up?

We are leaving Brisbane on 29th June. I was tossing up whether to go with almost new stock tyres but bit the bullet on Friday and dropped into Bob Jane's. Looks like it was a good idea to get new BFG A/Ts fitted tomorrow, maybe I should have gone the M/T's ;D.

We leave Cairns on the 21st June  ;D

This will make things interesting but it will be 2 weeks before we hit this road and it will be open by then.

See this trip will be memorable  :D

If it stops raining then they can recover the bogged trucks and open the road  ;D .

We're leaving the same day! I'm guessing we'll end up bumping into echother somewhere along the way!

Cheers!

The Croc Tent just posted this on facebook:

"Just spoke with Coen Police to check on the alleged road closure between Coen and Archer River, the officer advised that there had been no actual road closure but confirmed that the recent rain had definitely had a serious impact on road conditions. He suggested that there were some quite deep ruts and washouts and a few muddy patches, but everything was drying out nicely already."

Fingers crossed they don't get any more rain though before you all head up.

Happy travels :D

From Tourism Cape York

"Hi, I've just pulled in to Laura, the road north from Laura to musgrave is the worst bit mainly due to corrugation and pot holes, the rest had large ruts bc it's all chopped up, not good for towing things"

It will dry out but will be a little rough. Will need to graded but this won't happen for a while.

The last time it was this bad is when I went in 2006 when a late cyclone hit the Cape. We went in September that year and it was like a ghost town up there.

Well this is going to be one hell of a trip. With light rain still falling in Cairns and reports that some tracks are closed such as Frenchmans and parts of lakefield. The tracks will be very interesting.

The weather heading up is expected to clear but the rain along the coast is here for another week but expected to clear.

I have never seen rain / wet season continue this long since I have been in Cairns (17years).

Looking forward to the trip of a lifetime.

Mark
