You could always refer the problem to someone who can look up car registrations..... :police:

Just putting  the word out, you never know, hopefully the blokes the blokes that found it have come up with the same ideas of using the boys in blue .

It's not such an "out-there" idea to involve the police; that's what they do.   Also, using the police is the only legal way to apply "Finders Keepers" if no one claims it.  It makes sense for it to be the closest police station.   It sounds like the finder of the Cape York camera has come home with the camera and tried to do his own search using forums, without the ability to act on the one piece of evidence that solves the case (the rego).
Years ago I lost a camera near Sheepyard Flat.    On the way home we called in to Mansfield Police Station...and collected my camera.   On the other hand, when he was about 7 y old my son found a $100 note on the footpath.   I told him we should hand it in to the nearest police station.   As expected, no one claimed it and a month later my son collected the money.

i'd have a look at that thread except.... i've stopped frequenting that forum when a certain power crazy mod there kept editing threads to suit what he wanted them to say and not what the poster actually wanted them to say....as much as that guy seemed to think i'd come back "once i've cooled down" as he put it in P.M's to another mod on there that i know, it's not a forum i intend visiting again entirely due to his behaviour over there.
