I like it

But when are will these guys realise that suspension on a single axle trailer doesn't articulate? The articulation happens at the hitch

One went past me the other day.  The orange paint made it stand out.  Thought it was just another fancy painted import.  Not a lot of detail on their website but it does say they are Aussie made with Aussie canvas.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge independent suspension/ airbag fan, but the geometry of the Mirage suspension makes me cringe.

I'm no expert and am more than happy to be proven wrong but I thought with independent suspension the articulation referred to occurred from side to side as in for example moguls? I thought this is where the 'advantage' lies with independent setups?

Just my opinion but I think that the tent section at the bottom of the beds is a bit small.
I prefer to have the floor spaceā€¦.  To me thats the whole purpose of having a camper trailer.

Just saying.

I have a problem with the suspension.

All independent trailing arm suspensions have a very low roll centre - much lower that for a solid axle - which means a tendency for the body to lean over holus-bolus rather than simply to lean this way or that around a roll axis somewhere above the chassis.

Combine that with a suspension that has the air springs miles inboard and I start to get nervous. All springs should be located as close as possible to the wheel. My concern is that, if you got a sway up in this trailer when heavily loaded, it may be very hard to recover. I'd also expect an enormous amount of body roll, which may be offset to some extent by the big water tanks down low.

For these reasons I don't fancy the suspension - regardless of how well it rides. looks like a lovely unit though.
200 Series 2008, bull bar, Airmax snorkel, rack with 200 watt solar, third battery, winch, 33's with 2 spares, long range tank, drawers & barrier, bash plates, lifted & locked, Richards transmission lockup plus plenty of dings. Now towing the new Off Road Glamper.

I had a look at these a while ago on the net and they dont give you alot of info and pics.

I requested some pictures of the storage areas and they emailed me the same pics in their website.

I too am a little dubious of the suspention set up as i worry if you have issues in the bush how do you fix it. As mentioned earlier the distance from the wheel hub to the airbag also does not look right. I am no expert though.

They also have a Facebook page with some more pics. They do look good though, seem to have alot of features.
Regards,

Wilson79

She's a pretty swanky looking unit that's for sure, As others have mentioned though, there's not a great deal of info on their site about a lot of areas; I'd also be a bit concerned about their warranty conditions:

Quote
Every Mirage Recreational Vehicle is built under strict Australian quality control standards and inspection. Each tent is individually checked before shipping or fitting to the trailer.

We offer a 12 months warranty excluding, zippers, clips, screens and tie down points.

Any warranty claim must be submitted in writing accompanied by photographs of the defective part. All shipping charges for the return of faulty products must be paid for by the customer. Please do not return goods without our written authority to do so.

We do not cover items for warranty if the warranty claim arrives out of misuse, accidental damage, overloading, incorrect fitting, or using it for purposes other than for which it was designed.

In the event of us accepting a warranty claim, we reserve the right to repair, replace or provide a full refund, less shipping charges if any.

funny how people look at things , when I read about the warranty , I thought it was very professinal , at least you can see what is on offer
having been severly screwed over a while ago over a warranty issue , I like things to be black and white

As Keith says, the airbags have to be further out towards the wheel. If they came out with the option of Vehicle Components suspension, I would probably have one in my shed by now.

Keith / Diesel Power , without wanting to start an argument , what background do you come from to have the knowledge to comment regards the suspenion ?.... not being funny ... I don't have that sort of knowledge myself and always keen to learn things

i think that they had done alot of testing prior to releasing it onto a trailer and also they come from an mechincal engineering background
spoken to 2 owners and they are saying that the suspenion seems to work a treat

Not a problem if you can't afford one, but I'd say if this trailer is top quality, then that top of the range model will sell well.....

A lot of people these days like all the bells and whistles ( I personally don't see the need )......so if they market it right, and it is made well with quality fittings, then the price seems about right..
